You can do WHAT with your remote?!?!?

HSN is a home shopping network. It has been parodied in so many movies and TV shows. It is a wonderful invention where you can order things from your couch and phone. It was the early home shopping before you could log on your computer and shop online. I used to marvel at the stuff on HSN and QVC when I was little. It was so neat to see all kinds of things. A lot of the things like the food in my opinion is way over priced. You end up paying twice and sometimes three times the actual cost which is nuts. I do like the easy pay options on both.

It was a commercial and I went to click to see what was on HSN. I was watching them talk about bedding with my mom. I saw in the corner it said hit OK/select to order now. I thought maybe it was an error on their end. Nope if you hit OK/ select you can order things from HSN with your TV remote! My mom and I were saying oh lets order 3 of those in each color and just being dorks. Now ladies and gentlemen you can order things without leaving your home, without using the phone, and now without your computer.

I didn’t personally go as far as trying to order anything. We kept discussing different scenarios of things getting ordered. We kinda talked about it the other day with the cable box and the importance of having a pin number so your cleaning lady can’t watch movies or you get the 300 dollar smut cable bill after you had a house guest. I kept thinking about Noah accidentally ordering stuff from HSN. I am sure he wouldn’t be able to but it is kind of scary to think about. I bet that people that have shopping addictions could just sit there and order stuff. That is actually bad for those that can’t afford it and rack up their credit cards. I know people can do that with any form of shopping but I mean it is weird to be able to order products with your cable remote. What are your thoughts? Have you ever ordered anything with your remote other than PPV or anything On Demand?

I am a huge DORK!

When I was in school, I was in choir. I love to sing. I know I will never be on American Idol or become a great singer but, I love to sing. It is fun. When I was in the Sixth Grade we sang a song about the Presidents. It was all of the Presidents in order. I remember my choir teacher saying this will come in handy one day for History Class.

Here it is in all its glory!
I don’t really remember using this knowledge to this date except for the time we were doing the Brain Game and the question was who the first secretary of state was? I quickly sang the first few words of the song and “buzzed in” and said Thomas Jefferson. Well I thought If Washington was the first president, that would make John Adams his Vice President and since Thomas Jefferson came next then it was him. Of course it was purely a guess. I was relying on reasoning. Other than that being able to remember all the Presidents in order isn’t really as much of a good thing as I was once told.

Maybe someday I will be on a game show and I will be asked who is the such and such president and I will know and I will win a million dollars. Then I will have use for this silly song and I will be able to thank Mrs. Brandon for making us sing it. I can sing my presidents in order full names in 32 seconds and I RULE! How many can you name in order? How many can you name not in order?

(I am aware that I am a complete DORK! My friends and family love me anyway)

What will you give me for a basket of kisses?

I don’t know if I have told you guys or not but I hate scary movies. My favorite scary movie is not scary at all. However at the time it was a very scary movie. It was made in the 1950’s though. It was about something that no one thought about. I randomly stumbled on this movie at the library when I was with my old best friend. We were bored and were picking out movies to borrow. We always watched weird movies together; like Mary Reilly and we got it just because we could. We watched it and I ended up loving it. I got really excited when I found it on DVD at Borders. I of course had to snag that up since I would watch it every time it was on Turner Movie Classics which was not often.

Photobucket
The movie is called The Bad Seed. It is about a little girl named Rhoda Penmark and when she’s good she is very good and when she is bad she murders. She will kill anyone who stands in her way. I really don’t want to give away any of the movie. I had my cousin Dan watch it and he really likes it. It’s not gruesome at all. Movies back then were not allowed to be. The Motion Picture Production Code was enforced on this movie. It basically means crime cannot pay and you can’t get away with it and you must be punished so they had to change the ending in the movie from the books ending. No one in the 1950’s would ever imagine that a child could be a murderer. That is way it was scary. All of the actors are amazing too.The movie is in black and white and I think that it gives it an eerie effect. It is really believable.

So, be on the lookout for The Bad Seed on TCM. It is usually on at night normally pretty late. Also check your local movie rental place. It is definitely worth it. Rhoda’s manipulative behavior will make the hair on your neck stand up. Let me know what you think or if you have seen it. It one of those rare gems that not too many people have seen.
