Hey Baby What's Youre Niche?

Everyone is always talking about niches.  What is your niche? I am not exactly sure if it pronounced nitch or niche which would rhyme with quiche.  Honestly, I don’t really think I have a specific niche. When I fill out certain things one of the question commonly on the questionnaire is what is your niche or what your main focus is.   True I do a lot of reviews and giveaways but, I also talk about food, family life, being a mom, doing crafts and other bits of random things.  I think that I am my own niche. I am just me, I blog about whatever I feel like. It could be what products I like one day and something random like about baby diets.  I don’t consider my blog as a review blog because I have quite a few personal posts. I think a review blog is a blog that has only reviews, giveaways and other PR related posts. I love doing PR related things but I am a lot more than just PR.   I consider my blog a mish mash of everything.

There are a bunch of great niche blogs out there. I just don’t think I am able to write about just one thing and one thing only.  My friend Laura writes a chocolate blog.  I like chocolate but I don’t have her discipline to do that. I think it is awesome if someone has a niche, or is like me that write about whatever comes to mind.  I have never really been  a certain type of person. When I was in school I was friends with whoever I wanted. I wasn’t a preppy person although I have a funny story about Goodwill, I wasn’t an athlete, I hated gym.  I wasn’t a gangsta, I wasn’t a skater. I was just me. I have always had my own style, did my own thing and was friends with different types of people.  I wasn’t anyone but me.  I would dress whatever way I wanted to, be it a band shirt and cords or clothes from Abercrombie.  It just depended on how I felt that day.

I guess that is something I carried along with me as I got older. I don’t want to be in a specific group and only do one thing. I want the opportunity to do what I feel like and not be stuck being type casted in the blogging world.

Do you have a niche or are you just like me and do a little of this and a little of that?

Check Out Yard Sellr and Get a $10 Free Credit!

Everyone knows about garage sales or yard sales, it doesn’t matter what you call them they are the same thing.  This past weekend was our neighborhood yard sales, I wanted to go to them as I had done every year since we have lived here, but I just didn’t have the time. I had so much to do and the thought of dragging Noah around in his wagon was not something I was really looking forward to.  His wagon can be a pain to pull, I would have him walk but we live in a huge neighborhood and I was sure he would get tired.  I came across a website called Yard Sellr. It is pretty much the same thing as a traditional yard sale but it is from your computer.

You can sell your stuff without actually having to set it all up outside, and spending two or three days sitting outside hoping someone will buy something.  You don’t have to worry about the weather, if it is raining or if might rain. I have had to end a yard sale in the rain and it was not fun at all.  At the end of a traditional yard sale you have to lug all of your items back in and then do it all again the next day.  You don’t really know if you are going to make any money.  I would love to have one but I don’t want to deal with all the hassles of the traditional yard sale.

So, Yard Sellr does all the work for you.  You can list as many items as you want and then an interested buyer will look at your items. This is great if you have some different items that maybe only a few people would be interested in. I know for example, if I were to sell my seasons of Strangers With Candy in a yard sale, chances are they wouldn’t be sold unless my friend Victoria was in town.  No one would be like oooh Strangers with Candy, and then purchase it. That is an example of something that would have a limited audience.  Your listings can be linked to your Facebook and Twitter account to share your items with your friends in your Social Networks. Sometimes you change your mind about selling something, you can easily cancel the listing as long as no one has purchased it.

You can also buy items on Yard Sellr, with Photons. Photons are Yard Sellr’s form of currency.  When I was scrapbooking a lot I would always look for stamps, and other scrapbooking items. I didn’t really end up finding any. I would now be able to type in scrapbooking items for example and see what is available.  I wouldn’t have to scour through people’ s items and drag my son around to find what I am looking for.  You are not bidding on an item so if you want it, you don’t have to wait 5 days and spend hours trying to get what you want by bidding and making sure no one outbids you. I think it sounds really cool. I am going to definitely see what treasures I can find.

Sign up for Yard Sellr HERE, and you get $10 to start spending. You can earn 1,00,000 photons a day by doing different tasks.  10,000,000 equals ten dollars.  That is a pretty awesome deal. You can’t really earn credits with other sites.  I hope you join Yard Sellr. Maybe I will purchase one of your items.

I Really Need a Carpet Cleaner

As a mom to a very active four year old boy, who tends to be a little on the messy side, my carpets are not in the best condition. Throw in two cats that are very old and you have pretty much a disaster. I am of course exaggerating a little, but my carpets are stained.  It is normal for a home to have stains on the carpet after living there for a few years, no matter who you are. Most of them are dirt stains.   I have noticed though with Noah the stains are more frequent and are always interesting substances from anything to dirt to juice to apple sauce.  He is really good about eating in the breakfast area.  We occasionally do camp outs, or he gets to eat in the family room and play restaurant as he likes to call it.

At times, I spill things too. I think everyone spills sometimes.  Usually it is some food that is pretty messy to begin with.  I remember one time I decided to eat spaghetti on my bed, because I was watching a friends web show and I ended up spilling half the plate of food on my bed.  No use crying over spilled milk or spilled food.  So, there comes a time when you need to use a carpet cleaner.  We don’t own one so we rent one from the store.  It does an ok job. I would love to own my own though because lugging those carpet cleaners are a pain. They are heavy and always hard to fit in your car. I would love not to have to go to the store and borrow one and then bring it back.  I have tried stain removers and haven’t really had much luck with them. Once I knocked over a candle. It wasn’t burning, thank goodness.  It did however stain my carpet when part of the wick came off.  I was able to get that out fairly easily.  Not everyone has carpet in their homes, but I really like the feeling of nice soft carpet on my feet.

Mentoring Minds Contest

I wanted to share with you guys a contest you can enter. As a daughter of a teacher I know all the behind the scenes things that teachers do. I think that it is really important that we honor them through contests like these. Teachers do so much for our children, besides teach them. Teachers do things like comfort our children when they are hurt and everything in between. It is really easy to enter your child’s favorite teacher in this contest by clicking the picture. It will take you straight to the contest page. It is a great way for you to help with teacher resources. I hope you will share your favorite teachers with Mentoring Minds.

My Old Sleigh Bed

When I was younger, I always wanted a sleigh bed. I always thought sleigh beds looked really cool. I absolutely loved the style of them. They reminded me of Cleopatra or something a queen would have. I was in high school when I finally got one. It was just a twin bed, so it wasn’t as cool as a big one. I loved sleeping in that bed. It looked so cool. The only thing I didn’t like was it was a twin sized bed so I was always afraid I would fall out of it. It also would be a pain when I had a friend spend the night because they would either have to sleep on the couch or on the floor. Two people cannot fit comfortably on a twin bed without knocking someone out. The couch was really comfortable but you never get the same quality sleep on a couch. It doesn’t matter how comfortable the couch is, it is just more restrictive. I sleep in the middle of my bed now. I think it is the most comfortable place to sleep. I have a lot of room on each side of me. I remember falling out of that bed a few times. It was not fun at all. As much as I loved the bed I was so happy to finally get a bigger bed where I could stretch out.

I have thought about getting another sleigh bed, because I love the style. The twin one I had was cherry with a seashell on the headboard. It was really pretty but I think a mahogany sleigh bed would be great in a guest bedroom. I think that mahogany is a beautiful wood and it would be the perfect addition to any guest bedroom. It would be great to have a room for family and friends to stay when they come visit. I have family all over the US and I would love to have them come for a visit and not have to worry about checking in to a hotel nearby. I feel like when you have to go back to a hotel it cuts in to the time that you have to spend together vs. just going to bed. Hopefully someday soon I will have a guest bedroom set up and a nice room for my guests.

I think it is important to have good quality bedroom furniture. I want it to last a long time and be sturdy too. I know it is more expensive but if it lasts a long time then you won’t have to spend more to replace it. Think of it as an investment. Bedroom furniture can be passed down to your children or even your grandchildren. My mom has the dresser, headboard, and hi-boy that she and my dad purchased a long time ago. I am not exactly sure how old it is, but it is the furniture I can remember when I was a little girl. My sister had it for a while, I think I had it for a while and now it is back in my mom’s use. It has to be at least twenty-five years old, although I think it is quite a bit older. It is still in great shape too. When I look at it, I remember the times I was sick and was laying in my mom’s bed, when my sister and I used to jump up and look in the top drawers of the hi-boy, when my sister and I used to look for our Christmas presents. It’s funny how you can look at an old piece of furniture and remember so many wonderful memories.

Sitter Pals Review with $50 Outback Steakhouse Giveaway

One of the toughest choices about being a parent is deciding who will watch your child when you have to work or if you just want a night out. It is important to find someone who can be responsible and trusted enough to watch your most precious children. Most people in trust their children to a family member but not everyone has the luxury of that. Whether it was a job change or the family has all moved away, the parents now need to find a sitter. It is no longer the time where families live down the road from each other and moving away was pretty much unheard of, and if someone moved it was a huge deal, because it could mean it would be a long time before you saw your loved one again. Where do people find someone to watch their children? I am sure you could get a referral from a neighbor or a friend. Maybe your friends don’t want to share their awesome babysitter because they need them on the weekends and don’t want to be without a sitter for that party. So, we turn to the internet. There are sites out there that help parents find sitters and help sitters find work.

After browsing some of the sitter sites in the past, I found out about a website called Sitter Pals. It is the first social network for parents and sitters. As a blogger and someone who is very involved with social media, I love this concept. It helps you share sitters with friends, maybe you know three or four sitters that you trust but you have a regular sitter. You could help those four sitters find work and have a night out with the girls or a date night. I remember when I was babysitting, I would receive three or four calls for the same weekend to babysit. I passed out fliers door to door and had done a lot of babysitting. So, my client list was pretty long. I am sure those parents would have loved to just log on and see if I was busy or not. I hated not being available to all of them, but it was a first come first serve basis for me. I had friends who also babysat so I would refer them and they would refer me. Sitter Pals brings finding a sitter to a whole new level. Sitter Pals was created by Amanda Armstrong, who I think is a genius for this idea.

The other babysitting sites are more like finding a random sitter. Someone you didn’t know, that listed their information on a website. I tried to get babysitting and nanny jobs on a few of them. I went to the interviews to meet the parents and most of them were so far away that it wasn’t worth the gas to get there. I also was spammed all the time, by people trying to scam me. I am sure some of the people are good quality sitters, but I love Sitter Pals because you are able to share with your friends who is good and who is trustworthy. You can also book at the last minute and not have to go through your contact list to see who can babysit. You just post the job and watch the sitters come to you. You have full control with who you share with, which sitters you share, and who babysits your children.

For more information visit Sitter Pals.

Thank you to Sitter Pals for sponsoring this giveaway.

Weird Looking Actors

I absolutely love movies. I have seen so many movies. I always look at the actors features and I thought it would be a good blog post to talk about some of the different looking actors. It is really hard not to type cast an actor for a role they played especially if it a memorable one or one that might of scared you. I want to talk about four actors in particular.

1. Christopher Walken. I think that Christopher Walken is an amazing actor. I think the first movie I saw him in was Sleepy Hollow. Let me tell you, that movie scared me. I saw it on a date with this guy, who has its own crazy story all of its own. So, naturally since he was the Hessian, he scared me. He was very scary looking to me for a long time. I ended up eventually getting over it. I love every movie I have ever seen with him in it. He was amazing in The Prophecy Trilogy. I think that I have accepted that he is always going to play some kind of different role or something to do with the Mafia.

2. Dustin Hoffman. I have kind of mixed feelings on this one. His roles when he was younger he was attractive, like in The Graduate. Unfortunately, I have seen Hook way too many times to count. So, I always think of him as Captain Hook, not so much the Captain Hook that was wearing the wig, but the one without the wig. It was pretty scary looking, if you ask me. I have no doubt that he is a great actor, he was great in Rain Man when he was younger, and in Last Chance Harvey He was absolutely wonderful in Hero with Geena Davis. I just can’t help but remember how different looking he was in Hook. I know it was a costume and a role but it sort of ruined Dustin Hoffman for me.

3. Billy Zane. I am sorry but he just gives me the creeps. There is just something about him. I am not sure if it is his voice or something about his face. I think that he makes a great villain like in Titanic. He always plays actors that you don’t want to like. Even when he was the fake Damon Bradley in Only You he ended up being a bad guy and a jerk.

4. Steve Buscemi. He always plays crazy supporting roles. He is pretty goofy looking. I am sure that is part of his charm and how he gets the roles he does. He has been in so many movies from Fargo to almost anything with Adam Sandler. There is another actor that I constantly get him confused with. That actor is Sean Whalen who played Carl Wayne Bishop in Jury Duty and has been in a lot of movies too like Vegas Vacation. Sean also was in the famous Got Milk commercial where he can’t say Aaron Burr. I always get them confused. I know I can’t be the only one.

Have I forgotten anyone? What do you think of my picks? Let me know what you think!

Jewelry For Him

In the past, the most jewelry that a man would wear was a wedding band, often it was simply chosen amongst a few men’s wedding rings and was a plain gold band. Well the times they are a changin'. Now we are seeing men in stud earrings, beautiful, engraved and, even, engagement rings! Here are 3 hot men’s jewelry trends for 2011:

1. There is more to men's rings than men's wedding rings! We are seeing more and more men choose stunning rings simply for their beauty and craft, not to serve a purpose. Men are no longer limited to rings solely for marriage; they can now broaden their collection with any number of engraved bands simply for fun and style.

2. Men's engagement rings are very 2011. Women are now taking the bull by the horns, so to speak, and proposing to their boyfriends themselves. No longer is a proposal man only territory, it is becoming increasingly unisex, as are engagement rings. Often a men’s engagement ring looks similar to a wedding band, perhaps with a simple diamond inlay or some beautiful engraving surrounding the band.

3. What if he is not into rings? Then diamond stud earrings are definitely the way to go. Erase the image this evokes of large tacky bling, and replace it with beautiful and subtle diamond stud earrings. That’s what men are doing; studs are in, classic and going nowhere so this is a wonderful investment for any man.

Good luck men, let your inner jewelry aficionado loose, there is no better time than 2011!

Amy Lea, Who are you?

I have a pretty common maiden name. So common that my mom’s best friend happens to have the same last name as my mom does. I used to baby sit for her son and I would use her as a reference. I always had to put no relation in parenthesis. So, they would know I wasn’t giving a family member as a reference. They even team taught together so it I am sure got a little confusing as they worked together at more than one school. I have known her for many years. I was used to knowing a lot of people that I wasn’t related to with my same last name. It was nothing new for me. Until that day……

I was probably a freshman in high school, maybe it started before that, but I would get the mail, there it was. A sorority newsletter for a woman named Amy Lea and my last name. I was like oh they must have had a mix up at the post office, no it was my address. So I did what any good citizen would have done and wrote return to sender on it. It wasn’t a bill or anything but I didn’t want this woman’s sorority newsletter because no one by that name lived there. I didn’t even know the woman. I thought nothing of it and until we received another one a while later. I did the same old return to sender hoping that they would get the hint. Nope. We kept getting them. We started writing No one at this address, wrong address and then eventually we moved. We thought OK hopefully they got the idea that the Amy Lea from their sorority does not live here and the new neighbors can figure out what to do with her sorority newsletters, and letters because return to sender was not working.

Once we were in our new home we were finally relieved to be set free of the Anchora mailings for Ms. Amy Lea. Until, I got the mail and I saw the envelope and it addressed to Amy Lea. I wrote return to sender again. I even told the mailman this person does not and has never lived here. I have no clue who she is. Then it was time for their mailings, once again, there was Amy Lea in my mail box. I think by this time my mom called the sorority and said we keep getting this persons letters and newsletters from you. Please stop sending them you have the wrong addresses. She did it politely of course. The letters and newsletters stopped. We used to make jokes about which of us was really Amy Lea. I was afraid that I would see that envelope or newsletter waiting for me when I opened my mailbox every time I got the mail. Well by this time we moved again.

I remember getting the mail and the first time I saw another letter or newsletter from the Sorority I said Oh no Mom she’s back! It wasn’t like we were getting this woman’s mail. We were not getting anything of hers other than the sorority mailings. It would be completely different if we were getting her bills and other letters. We did the whole return to sender, calling, writing she doesn’t live here thing again. I think I even tried finding an email address for the sorority. This time it didn’t stop. We just kept sending them back over and over again.

We moved a couple more times, and each time the letters would come. It was like the sorority was stalking us. It wasn’t a forwarded envelope, it was just a typed envelope. We did not know Amy Lea. I think we looked for her in the phone book, and didn’t find one. It was just the strangest thing. When we moved to Florida, the sorority found us there too and the Amy Lea letters and newsletters kept coming. None of our names are close to Amy, we have no Amy’s in our family, not even anything that could be remotely close to Amy. We had done everything short of getting a restraining order against the sorority.

We haven’t received one in a long time, I am scared that tomorrow, when I get the mail, it will be there waiting for me…….

This time if it happens, I will find them, and tell them to kindly knock it off, they have been harassing me through the mail for the last fourteen years.

I Really Need to Get a Kitchen Cart for my Appliances.

Since I love to cook, I naturally have a lot of kitchen appliances. I have so many that I don’t have enough cabinet space. I have a lot of cabinets, just not any room. I try not to have a bunch of appliances on the counter except for my pride and joy, my stand mixer. Right now half of my appliances are on a metal bookcase in the laundry room, I really need to get one of those kitchen carts on wheels so I don’t have to make five trips when I need a lot of appliances. I could just wheel it in the kitchen when I need something. However I could see Noah wheeling it all over the house pretending it was a rocket or a train. Actually he is pretty good at not touching what he isn’t supposed to.

My laundry room isn’t too big. The spot that I would put the cart would be the same. Since it would be a tight fit, I would have to look at narrow kitchen carts. It would also have to have plenty of room so I can put everything on it. I would prefer a taller skinnier one then one that is bulky and hard to move and that sticks out really far. My laundry room is set up perfectly and everything has its place. It houses my washer and dryer and furnace and some other items. I have a habit of walking in the laundry room in the dark, so if it was a huge cart I would knock it over or end up hurting myself. Neither of those are a good thing.

I also considered installing some shelves in the laundry room or in the kitchen but I am not a handy person at all. It takes me forever to put Noah’s toys together, I fought with his play tent for about 30 minutes the other day. Like I said before I want something with wheels so I can move it around. I may decide to get a free standing cart to put in my breakfast nook, but then I would have to move Noah’s Easel. I can’t wait to start shopping for a new cart with wheels that I will keep in the laundry room. It’s better than the garage and out of the way at the same time.

Shari's Berries Review

My favorite fruit is definitely strawberries. I love them in so many different things, fruit pizza, plain, with pound cake, and of course dipped in chocolate. I don’t have chocolate covered strawberries very often so when I do, it is a real treat. I had the opportunity to try some of Shari’s Berries chocolate covered strawberries. I had seen the commercial so many times, drooling each time I watched. I wanted to try them so bad because they looked absolutely delicious. I received the Full Dozen Gourmet Dipped Mother's Day Berries. I am very simple when it comes to chocolate covered strawberries. I like them with just chocolate, no nuts, and no frills. I want nothing to take away from the taste of the berries and the chocolate.

The chocolate covered strawberries arrived fast and in perfect condition. The delivery driver had put the box on its side and I was so afraid that would have damaged them. I received a great variety of chocolate strawberries. The chocolates were milk chocolate which was really creamy. I am a huge fan of dark chocolate so, I loved the ones dipped in dark chocolate. There were also strawberries dipped in white chocolate. I wasn’t too sure about the white chocolate but it was really good too. Some of the strawberries had a crunchy sugar topping on it, making them sparkle. The sugar topping gave the perfect little extra crunch. I had to share them with Noah who kept begging me for some. He really enjoyed them too. He ate all the chocolate off first and ate half the berry. I didn’t want to waste it, so I ate the rest of the berry, and he got really upset about it. I think he was saving it for later. They are huge berries though. I could only eat one at time because they were so filling, yet satisfying at the same time.

I had received some chocolate covered strawberries for Christmas. It was another brand, they were pretty good but nowhere near as good as the ones I received from Shari’s Berries. Shari’s Berries were a lot bigger and sweeter than the other brands. The chocolate was better too. I really enjoyed my chocolate covered strawberries from Shari’s Berries. Shari’s Berries would be a great Mother’s Day present, a birthday present or just because present. They also have cherries if strawberries are not your thing. I am not a huge fan of chocolate covered cherries so, thankfully I love strawberries. If you order them for someone else, I highly recommend that you buy some for yourself or you will dream about these chocolate covered strawberries.

For more information and to order, please visit Shari’s Berries.

Thank you to Shari’s Berries for sending me some chocolate covered strawberries to try out and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Shopping With Noah for Outdoor Furniture

Noah and I went shopping today; while we were out we were looking at cheap outdoor furniture for him. It was really cute it was a Noah sized table with two chairs and even an umbrella. I loved it and we found it at the grocery store at all places. He sat in it for about five minutes and then I realized that he doesn’t really have anywhere to sit outside. I mean sure he could sit in a big chair but I think he would like to have something more his size. I have looked at the kids sized items that you can put outside and I think as much as we spend outside that he needs something to call his own. I think that it would be cool to have his little chair next to mine as we watch the cars go by.

When I was little my grandparents and I would sit on their front porch and watch the cars and trucks go by. We would play a game trying to figure out which color car would come by next. We rarely kept score it was just something fun for us to do. I have great memories of watching the cars going by with my grandpa. We loved being outside but sometimes you just want to relax. I wonder if Noah would just like to sit down and feel the wind through his hair and watch the ducks on the pond. We have new baby ducks! We also bought seeds to start a garden. I am not too sure how well it will work out but I am hoping it will. I would love to get some garden furniture like a bench or a swing. I love being able to swing and talk on the phone outside on nice nights.

We had our family over a couple weeks ago, although the weather was too cold and rainy to be outside it would have been really nice to sit on the patio and chat. As I have mentioned before, we have a huge patio. We have a big family so we would have to get some more furniture for the patio to accommodate them all. We had a great time and there were ten of us, which is only a small part of my family. So, to hold a get together with everyone we would definitely have to get some more seats. I remember the family visits at my grandparent’s house, they would have every chair in the house including folding chairs and there still was a few that had to stand. I am the youngest grandchild so I always seemed to have a seat.

It seemed like old times, we talked about all kinds of things. My aunt found records of my Grandpa Jim and his parents from the 20’s or 30’s. My uncle is going to clean them up and make us all copies. I can’t wait to hear them, we no longer have my little toy record player. I really enjoy spending time with all of them. I wish we weren’t all so spread out. I am hoping this summer we can spend more time with them and of course have a lot of time outside playing and relaxing.

What are your favorite things to play outside?

I Do Not Want Your Unwanted Parenting Advice....Sorry

For those of my readers that are parents, I am sure you have encountered this at some point at least once as a parent. People who tell you how to raise your child or give you unsolicited advice, I am sure in most cases it is someone who wants to help, other times they have other motives. I knew this girl who would give me parenting advice, things that worked for her niece and nephew or someone who thinks they know what is best for my child. I am glad that those things would work for them but my child is his own person, things work differently for different children.

I remember when Noah was 6 months old and he would wake up in the middle of the night crying for a little bit. I had mentioned it to his doctor in one of his visits. She told me to wait 5 or 10 minutes before going in there. I mentioned it once and this person started calling me a bad mom, saying I didn’t take care of my son; of course that was not the case. I was following the advice of his doctor who specializes in children. As long as he was fine, it was ok for him to cry a little bit. He wasn’t in danger or being ignored. He was learning to self soothe himself. I would let it go for the exact time limit and then go check, most of the time he was back asleep. I knew that person was trying to upset me and I didn’t let it. I was a mom and I was doing a great job.

It is easy for someone who is not a parent to give advice. It is easy for them to say I would do this, or I wouldn’t do that. It is different when you are a parent and you know your child. I am sure people who want to have children think about what kind of parent they want to be. There are quick judgments about how someone raises their child. I am definitely not saying that there are instances where it is wrong for a parent to do something that is harmful to their child, because I know sadly that’s not the case. It does happen but at the same time there are many false accusations made against parents that are doing nothing wrong. I think that if you suspect something going on that is truly harmful please report them, but it is not a tool to use to get back at or hurt someone with. Think of it this way, Child Protective Services or whatever it is called in your state gets ten calls from people that are just trying to punish an adult that is ten cases that are legitimate are getting pushed to the side. I know that many parents like me love my child so much and he is my world.

It seems like everyone has an opinion when it comes to parenting, which is fine. I know that is perfectly ok to have your opinion, but at the same time if someone doesn’t ask for advice, maybe you should just keep it to yourself. Comments that other people make telling you what to do with your child are very annoying. Depending on what the comment is, it could really make them upset. It really could make someone question themselves as parents. They might wonder if they are doing a good job. I am not talking about the parents that don’t really deserve to be a parent, but good loving mothers and fathers.

There are some people I welcome parenting advice from such as my mom, my son’s doctor or any doctor, and if the person was degreed in something child related such as a counselor. I would also welcome parenting advice from my cousins that have children because I know they know what they are doing. I know that they wouldn’t tell me advice unless I asked. I would remember that just because it worked for their child, it may or may not work for mine. I know from talking to friends about our children, some things don’t work for siblings either. Every child is different, just because it works for one it may not work for another.

So, if you are not my mom, or not a doctor or the like or I didn’t ask you what to do, then please don’t tell me how to raise my child. Even then I don’t always follow my mom’s or anyone’s (other than his doctor’s) advice. I just ask their opinion and take it in to consideration. I know that I ask my friends for advice sometimes, as they ask me but it is always solicited. You might think you are helping but wait until someone asks about something before saying something that could upset them.

Have you ever received off the wall parenting advice? Have you ever had someone who had no clue what it is like to be a parent give you advice?

Garage Sale Tracker's Special Features

Its spring, so it is time to kick off one of my favorite things about spring and summer, garage sale time. When I was little, my Grandma Diana would always take my sister and I to garage sales. We were always able to pick out a toy or two from the garage sales that we went to. I loved it, and I think that is when I found my love for garage sales. I think it is so cool to go and look at what people don’t want anymore and sell for really cheap. I have found some great finds at garage sales, but nowhere near as great as things that my dad has found. He found a bunch of baseballs for a dollar each and they ended up being worth a lot more than that. I really enjoy loading Noah up in his wagon and wandering around our neighborhood and looking at what my neighbors are selling.

We normally just stick to our neighborhood because we haven’t really a way to find other garage sales to go to. They used to be listed in the paper and now it seems like they aren’t really in there anymore. When I was pregnant with Noah I used to drive around with a friend looking for garage sales, but with gas being over four dollars a gallon, that just isn’t an option anymore. I found a really cool website called Garage Sale Tracker. It is a free website where you can find garage sales in your area. I am sure there are other websites out there like Garage Sale Tracker, but not with the special features.

I know sometimes you want to go to garage sales when you are visiting family, but really don’t know the area, Garage Sale Tracker has a Trip Planner to help it make it easier. I have lived in the same area for most of my life and honestly, I don’t know the names of all the streets in neighborhoods. I know enough to get around like the main streets, but I remember driving around in circles and wasting a lot of gas not really knowing exactly where I am going. Garage Sale Tracker’s trip planner will help me be able to find all those hidden gem garage sales. I am sure you have used a map website to get directions, but it really is a pain to type in all the addresses on mapping websites and it is so time consuming. I love that you don’t have to type any of the addresses to find where they are. Garage Sale Tracker does all the extra work for you. I like to think of it as my own personal garage sale tour guide or a concierge.

Do you remember those days when we had to actually write things down to know where we are going or to make a list of places we want to go to? Another feature Garage Sale Tracker has is a bookmark list. You can simply click on the bookmark this button and it will save it for you. You don’t have to write anything down, and if you see many garage sales you want to go to, you don’t have to try and remember them all. If you change your mind you can remove the book mark really easily too. After you decide where you want to go, you can use your bookmarks with the Trip planner to plan out your day of garage sales.

I don’t know how many times I have been out and then decide to go to garage sales, maybe it is because I saw one as I am driving by or sometimes just as something to do. I am obviously not going to go home and look for garage sales and I am probably not going to drive around looking for them, Garage Sale Tracker has an iPhone app just for this occasion! So, when the urge hits Garage Sale Tracker is with you and mobile. I know that for some people, garage sales are a serious business. Some people really get in to it and wake up early to be the first to be at a sale, especially if there is something they really want. Like the saying says, The early bird gets the worm or in this case the best items from a garage sale.

Check out Garage Sale Tracker and sign up for a FREE account. The sign up is really easy and this is such a helpful website.

Do you like to go to Garage Sales? What is the best item you found at one?

I Need My Own Office!

I spend a lot of time on my computer, as a blogger and I don’t have a home office desk. I have a laptop so, I blog where ever I end up. I would like to have an office where I can go and work and have all of my stuff in one place. I would love to create my own office with Noah’s artwork on the walls. Noah loves to draw me pictures. I would like to have a brightly colored room with a cd player, so I can listen to music while I work. I would also have to have a TV. I would love to have some really nice office furniture. I used to have a computer desk that was extremely flimsy. It had a top on it that was really loose and would move if I touched it. I didn’t really like it because it wasn’t ideally what I wanted. There wasn’t a lot of space to put things. It did last a long time though. I need a lot of space on a desk where I can organize my things and spread out.

I think that atmosphere is really important too. I would definitely have a few candles in there that I can light to relax while I am working. I would love to have a huge desk chair; it must spin and roll around. My aunt and uncle have a desk in their house and it is on a track. It looks like something out of The Jetsons. You just push off and you go flying. I am pretty sure I hurt myself on it once. I am definitely going to think about creating a little home office for myself soon. I think it would be really cool to get one of those desks for small spaces for Noah, so he could do his projects next to me while I work. He does have a little table that my dad made when I was like his age, complete with a chair with the stickers I stuck on it from when I was little. Those stickers must have been stuck with super glue because they have been there for over 20 years. It is crazy to see my son sitting in my old chair at my old little table, I should be used to it, I mean he eats off the same yellow plates that I ate off when I was his age.

I guess I should start looking at computer desks for home, since my space is limited. so maybe someday, my dream of having my own home office will come true. I have a small half room that I could use. That room has been many things, like my scrapbook room, oddly enough it started out as a den. Now it is kind of a storage/guest room. We have lived in our house for three years and every year, it is made in to a different room. Maybe 2011 will be the year for my office for my blog.

Do you have a home office? What kinds of things do you do to make it more comfortable?

Noah's Easter Calendar

Every December I get an advent calendar. I love advent calendar chocolate. Noah gets one each year too to count down the days till Christmas. This past Christmas was the first year he was really excited about it. He would love to open a window and count down the days till Christmas. He is really big on counting down to things. He says how many more sunrises until whatever it is he is looking forward to. He normally will say is it one more sunrise? Usually it is a lot more, but he knows that each day it gets closer to what it is.

He decided he wanted an Easter Calendar, like an advent calendar. Since I have never seen an Easter calendar, we decided to make one. I took a 12 by 12 piece of cardstock and took a ruler and made the right number of boxes. The idea was to either color or put a sticker in the box each day to count down. I even numbered the boxes backwards. Noah wanted me to change the way I made the twos because I made them with the loop in them. Instead of confusing him, I erased the twos and redid them for him.

When we were done, I went to look for stickers so he could mark off the first day, I left his Easter calendar on the fridge with magnets. I couldn’t find any stickers that were small enough. I probably could have looked harder. I know there are probably some somewhere but not where I was looking. I came down stairs and the first thing I noticed was Noah’s Easter Calendar was not where I left it. I asked him where it was because he wasn’t carrying it around. He showed it to me and there was little cars, trucks, and blimps and airplanes in some of the boxes. I let him finish the boxes. I am not sure how we will count down the days now. I thought maybe with a x, but I don’t want to ruin his chart and that might hurt Noah’s feelings. He is an amazing artist and I want to encourage his creativity as much as I can.

We never ended up using it. I didn't wanna mess up his creation. We had so much fun doing it though. I don't know where he comes up with these things.

Crazy Crib Adventures

When we were moving back from Florida, I decided to get another crib, because it we hadn’t had the opportunity to take all our furniture back with us. I thought maybe Noah would just sleep in his play pen for a couple weeks but, he climbed out of it. I had bought the crib at Target. I ended up getting one of those convertible cribs because it was less expensive. While my son’s other one was in another state. THREE WEEKS after I had purchased the crib the real problems started. It was a very stormy night. The power kept going out and there was a really bad storm going on. So I go in my son’s room to check on him and make sure he isn’t scared. Then I see some chunks of wood missing from the crib. My son at the time was one years old. I freak out. I am wondering what is going on with the crib. Did my son swallow the wood? Should I call 911? I had no clue what in the world was going on. There were chunks missing all over the crib.

I was furious with the crib company. I mean they have to figure that a child is going to chew on it. They should have made it safe for them to do so and not end up with splintered wood in their stomachs. I called the crib company that morning and they were not much help. I was so frustrated and upset that I spent the whole call crying. They told me to mail them the baby crib back on my dime. Then they would send me a check. I told them no. I wasn’t going to pay for their problem. I tried to call Target and I didn’t get much help from them either. They told me to call the crib company. So I went around and around in circles.

I ended up “ghetto covering” the holes with diapers and electrical tape. It seemed to work. My other crib was coming really soon. So I stuck it out. I didn’t sleep much that week. A few days before that ( I think its been a while) my son’s leg got stuck in the bars of the crib, not a little stuck but completely. It was past his knee. My son has fat thighs. So, I call the hospital and ask them what to do. I tried oil and lotion. They told me I could call the fire department or the police and explain the situation and have them come rescue him.

My friend was on his way over to hang out. I was texting and talking to him on his way here. I thought I would wait until he was here before I did anything because it wasn’t like really dangerous as in an emergency. So my friend got here and took a look. I told him to break the crib if he had to just be careful of my son. My friend ended up pulling the bars enough for me to slide out my son’s leg. I was so happy that my baby was free. He did have a bump from the bars and being stuck but he was ok. He was still able to bounce. My friend became my knight in shining armor that night. He ended up telling his mom about it and would bring it up every time I saw him.

I ended up filling out the recall form online to let the people that are in charge of recalls know about my experience. The crib company ended up sending me a random crib. The crib they sent was never used because by that time I had Noah’s crib back. I had bad luck with baby cribs with Noah. I am thankful nothing happened to him though, so for that I am blessed.

An Unexpected Trip to South Carolina- Part One

We took an unexpected trip to South Carolina a couple weeks ago to visit my sister and brother in law. It was very short notice. We decided on Sunday afternoon and left Monday at noon. We drove so it was a very long drive. We broke it up in to two days on the way down. We could have drove the fourteen hours in one day but that would be really exhausting for everyone. We had a pretty good drive the first day, Noah was excellent. He loved looking at the mountains and all the trucks. I was very proud of him and he would let us know when he needed to go to the bathroom in enough time where we were able to stop. He didn’t have any accidents the entire trip. The first night at our hotel, we were in Knoxville, and stayed at a hotel by a huge fireworks sign. That was Noah’s favorite thing to look at. Later that night I got really sick. I started with a headache and then came all the vomit. I am not sure what was wrong with me. I am thinking it might be from stress or worrying about things. After having a rough night I was fine in the morning.

We loaded everything back up in the car and headed down the road. We only had a four or five hour drive the second day, that felt like an eternity. It seemed like North Carolina and South Carolina took forever to drive through. I probably got 3 hours of sleep the night before. I was so happy when we finally were at my sister’s and brother in law’s house. My sister was at work and well my brother in law was no where to be found. I finally called him and he eventually showed up. They have a gorgeous home, with hard wood floors that you will hear more about later. We spent the evening chatting, watching Sprout of course, and ordered pizza. My brother in law is from New Mexico and he makes the best homemade salsa. I kind of remember the recipe but I might have to email my sister and have him tell me again. This pizza had huge slices. I only had one and I was full. I was so exhausted that I couldn’t wait to go to sleep and wake up the next morning refreshed and more sociable.

Our first full day at my sister’s was very laid back it was raining but warm. We just pretty much hung out the whole time. Noah was able to play with a neighbor boy and they had a lot of fun. My mom and I went to Publix to pick up a few things. We both love Publix. As soon as we walked in, we were handed a sample of Red Velvet cake. My mom had to get her mango pie. I had to do what I call my Publix tradition. When we lived in Florida, every time we went to Publix, I would weigh myself on the giant scale, so I had to follow suit. This was a dangerous day for me. I was down stairs and I needed to get on my laptop so I bolted up the stairs and almost fell down. I decided maybe I should slow down a little bit. I took a shower a little bit later and fell down getting out of the shower. It hurt so bad. I was ok though. I ended up with a nasty bruise and a little pain. I was glad that if someone had to fall that it was me versus Noah or my mom.

We went to a really cool seafood restaurant called The Docks, I think. They have tons of shrimping boats and a lot of the food is caught fresh. The food was amazing. Noah had his own Cherry Coke for the first time. He was so excited. I ordered twin lobster tails for dinner. I thought it was going to be small lobster tails like at restaurants here, but it was two big lobster tails. They were both 6 ounce tails. I had a very delicious lunch the following day too since I had leftovers. The waitress loved Noah, he was talking up a storm to her and she was bragging to the other employees about how smart he is. Noah was really good at the restaurant too, sipping away at his cherry coke. He wanted to be like his uncle and have the same drink as him. We had a lot of fun at the restaurant. My brother in law had to go do his rounds, so we came home and went to bed.

The second part of this post will be soon.

Noah is Growing Up Fast!

When I found out I was pregnant with Noah, I started making my list of what I would need for him. I remember that I had a check list that was like four pages long. He needed all kinds of things, or so I thought. There were some things on the list that I never ended up using. I knew that he was going to be a boy so I made sure I bought gauze for his circumcision. I never ended up using it though. I was an over prepared mom who had everything that the books recommended short of a bottle warmer, and wipe warmer, which both seemed like something I would not use. The most important thing to have for a baby or a child for that matter is a car seat. We are on car seat number 4. I would suggest cosco car seats for anyone who is looking for a car seat. The one we had lasted a long time. It had gone on my many trips and never had any problems with it. It was a great price too.

Noah has always been a big boy so when he meets the weight requirement he has to move on to another one. I really don’t mind though because that’s just part of being a mom, new car seats, new clothes, and new shoes as he keeps growing. Noah has had a lot of cute clothes and shoes. I wish I would have bought him some toddler rain boots. So, his pants wouldn’t get wet as he jumped in the puddles. Little kid boots are adorable and I was just thinking about buying Noah a pair, so we can jump in puddles together. I would need boots too because my snow boots would look ridiculous in the Spring and Summer. I could probably get away with wearing my beach sandals though.

You Don't Know When it will be the End of the World.

Personally, I am really sick of all the end of the world talk. You know how the NPR said that Judgment Day is on May 21,2011, which is totally false saying it was in the Bible. Some people think that the end of the world is in 2012. They even made a movie about it; the supporting evidence is the Mayan Calendar ends. Well, the Mayans haven’t been around for a very long time. Just because they stopped making the calendar doesn’t mean it is the end of the world. I am sure they just didn’t think back then that the world would still be around or maybe they got tired of making a calendar and figured someone else will make the new one. Last I checked the Mayans are not prophets, they don’t posses some kind of power to know when the world will end. I personally believe that no one knows when Judgment Day or the end of the world will be. The only one who knows is God.

It really has been hysteria and an obsession for some. People have been so worried about when the end of the world will be using things like the internet as evidence. There are people that have count downs and secret “battle” plans. Some have drills where they practice what they will do. In my opinion that is pure insanity. I am not sure if they think it is going to be like The Stand by Stephen King, where there is a horrible plague and that they could be one of the few survivors that are responsible of recreating the human race. I believe when the time comes there will be the rapture, and then the end of the world and that is the end of the world, no survivors. I wouldn’t want to be left behind. I don’t want to see the end of the world and the aftermath. I wouldn’t want to be responsible for that, and have to go through that huge loss. I have no doubt that when the rapture comes and I am still on Earth that I will float to heaven with all my loved ones.

I watch The 700 Club sometimes, and someone asked Pat Robertson about the whole NPR thing and Pat told a story about when CBN started there was a man who called up Pat and said I really have to get on TV and talk to everyone because the end of the world is on Sunday, and that God told him so. Of course that wasn’t true. Pat said that the man ended up in a mental hospital on that Monday. He said it was 50 years ago. I personally believe that no one knows, no one will know, it will just happen. Honestly it does scare me to think about, I know I am going to heaven if it happens during my lifetime, but it still is kinda scary to me. There is so much I want to do still. I hope it won’t be for a very very long time, but who knows? I am sure this is not the first, second, third time someone has “predicted” the end of the world and I am sure it won’t be the last.

Lemon- Garlic Chicken from Kroger and ConAgra #weeknightmeals

More check-ins at Kroger
Powered by Whrrl

I was able to participate in another Kroger shop. This time I used my widget on my sidebar to try out a new recipe called Lemon Garlic Chicken. I was really excited to try it out. I went to the website and printed the recipe and the shopping list. I never read recipes right off my computer because I would make a mess. Today’s Kroger trip was an adventure to say the least. It wasn’t bad, just crazy. I have been trying to have Noah walk more at the store instead of riding in the cart. He loves to push the cart and explore things. He does a great job at pushing the cart; it is really cute to see him pushing it. Today, we were in the area with the cheese, and produce. I went to get a sample of cheese for both of us and Noah was at the salad bar trying to sample things. He really thought they were samples. There was a guy who works there at the gourmet cheeses and he and I were both laughing so hard. I was like Noah, come here. He was totally going to help himself to whatever looked good. I mean he has seen me get a sample from the sample tray so he just thought it was the same thing.

We saw some pretty good deals. Noah had to check out the lobster tank too of course. I had to buy some chicken and they were pretty low stocked on chicken. I even checked the meat counter. I did find some, but it was a bigger package than I wanted to buy. It might have been because it was only $1.99 a pound which is a great price. We did find everything we needed though. I also picked up a couple other items that were a good price as a treat. I saw a lot of ConAgra products on sale too. I tried a recipe called Hero Joes a couple weeks ago and I was tempted to buy the ingredients for that as well, but decided I would another day. Noah wanted to sample some yogurt and when he was finished he threw away his spoon and little cup and walked away. He went back to the trash and was worried because he threw the spoon away and tried to get it back out. I had to explain to him that it was a throw away spoon, not like the ones we have at home. Once we got all our groceries we were ready to check out. This meal is very inexpensive to make.

When I was ready to make dinner, it was really easy to throw together. I had to cut the chicken breasts in half because there was only three in the package. The package of chicken weighted 2 and a half pounds. I think it would be great to use tenders too. The first thing that surprised me was that you don’t cook it on the stove. It is completely oven baked, that cuts down on the fat. If you know me, you know how much I hate doing dishes. I love this recipe because you don’t use any bowls, you put everything in bags and shake it. Once you are done with the bags you throw them in the trash and clean up is a breeze. It takes only 25 minutes to bake too. So easy, I couldn’t wait to try it.

Here is the recipe for Lemon-Garlic Chicken:

Ingredients
• PAM® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
• 1/2 cup Italian-style bread crumbs
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
• 1 teaspoon lemon pepper
• 1/4 cup lemon juice
• 2 tablespoons Pure Wesson® Canola Oil
• 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (4 breasts = 1 lb)

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Spray shallow baking pan with cooking spray. Combine bread crumbs, garlic salt and lemon pepper in recloseable food storage bag. Combine lemon juice and oil in another recloseable food storage bag.
2. Add chicken to bag with lemon juice mixture; toss to coat. Place each breast in bag with crumb mixture; shake to coat. Place coated chicken in single layer in baking pan. Sprinkle any remaining crumbs over chicken, if desired.
3. Spray tops of chicken with cooking spray. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink in centers (165°F).

I love how you get the breaded coating and you don’t have to mess with frying it. I know that there are a lot of dietary restrictions out there where people cannot have fried food. This would be a great option for them. There is no butter or eggs in it either. The wet part of the recipe is a little bit of oil and some lemon juice. Honestly, I was a little worried because I am not a huge lemon pepper fan, but really it was really good. The flavors were married perfectly. The lemon pepper wasn’t over powering. It had the perfect amount of crunch too. We had baked potatoes and corn to go with it. I really enjoyed it and so did my family. I love that I am trying so many delicious recipes from Kroger and ConAgra.

11 More Movie Quotes I love.

I love to watch movies and quote them too. So I thought I would share 11 more of my favorite movie quotes with you all. Just for fun. These are in no particular order they are all quotes that I love from different movies.

11. Just remember that in every pothole there is hope. Well, you see, pothole is spelled P-O-T-H-O-L-E. So if you take the P, and add it to the H, the O, and the E, and rearrange the letters... or contrariwise, you remove the O, T, and the L, you get "hope". So, just remember, in every pothole there is hope! -Mixed Nuts.

Check Out My Meal Solutions Widget #Weeknightmeals

I am always wondering what is for dinner? I love to eat and cook so it is something that is always on my mind. Maybe it was something I inherited from my great grandma, she had 12 children and she had to start dinner as soon as the breakfast dishes were cleared. Since she had to make everything from scratch and had to figure out what the meal was going to be. Maybe that is where I get the curiosity from. I also like to anticipate what I am going to be eating. I think that food is a great thing and should be savored and I like to think about how it will taste, smell and look.

I enjoy trying new recipes and there are many places to find them but I get lost in the recipes on some websites because there is not really an easy way to navigate. You have to have a specific ingredient in mind. I am not saying that is a bad thing but sometimes I don’t have the time to spend looking for a recipe when I don’t have something specific in mind. Sometimes I just think about the type of food I want and then I am overwhelmed with thousands of choices. I want something simple, easy to find and of course delicious.

I have a new widget on my sidebar from Kroger and ConAgra that is really cool. It is called Meal Solutions. You can find it on my left side bar. It will tell you a recipe or recipes by answering three simple questions. You just click your selections and you are introduced to a delicious meal. There is also a Surprise Me button where you can get a totally random recipe.

The Three Questions are:

1.What are you craving? The choices are: American, Tex-Mex, Asian and Italian

2. How much time do you have? Less than 15 minutes, less than 30 minutes and more than 30 minutes.

3.Who is coming to dinner? Serve 1, Serve 2, and Serve 4.

I really like the ease of this website and widget. I can just click it and know that I will have a great meal to create for my family. I also love that I can print a shopping list of the ingredients that I need. If you are not sure your spouse will like the recipe or have a friend who loves Italian food, there is also a Tell a friend button that will share the recipe with them. I hope you will check it out and let me know if you try anything. I know that the Hero Joes are delicious! I am going to try another one of the recipes very soon and share with you guy about it.

I Saw the Mickey Mouse Club.

When I was younger, I think I was 12 maybe, my family went to Disney World and stayed at Port Orleans. I still remember going down the serpent water slide with my sister right behind me. One of the things we did was seeing The Mickey Mouse Club or The MMC. I remember talking to a very young Britney Spears, well she was my age. My sister and I both touched Justin Timberlake and I remember how cool we both thought that was even back then. There were all of those other kids that became famous when they were older too. I thought they were famous back then, but nowhere near as much as they are now.

It was Guest Day on The MMC. The guest was Tatyana Ali from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I remember how excited I was to get to see The MMC, the taping took a few hours and it was fun to see how the TV show worked. I still remember when they showed my sister and I shaking hands or high-fiving Justin Timberlake on TV. I was wearing my Lion King T-shirt. We used to have it on a video tape, which I am sure was taped over by an episode of Days of our Lives or something equally useless now. I scoured YouTube and watched the opening of the MMC elevenity billion times hoping for the video on You Tube. Unfortunately, the episode of the MMC with Tatyana Ali was not You Tube worthy. So, I couldn’t find it. I searched for hours, because I thought it would be cool to share with you all. I do have some pictures of the outsides. You weren’t allowed to take pictures while they were filming.

Have you ever seen a taping of a show? If so what one? I have always wanted to sit in Judge Judy’s courtroom but not as a plaintiff or a defendant though.
