Del Webb joins KitchenAid for Cook for the Cure® and Kitchenaid Mixer Giveaway

Breast Cancer is an illness that affects everyone’s lives. It is a very sad and unfortunate disease that plagues many women and their families. I have been lucky to where no one in my family has had breast cancer, but we have had family members with other cancers. Cancer is a horrible thing. My favorite teacher had breast cancer. She is a survivor. I remember when she told me, I was so heartbroken. I am so glad that she is ok now. It’s crazy because she was always in great shape and took care of herself. I know that doesn’t have to do with anything but, it is just something that you can’t really prevent. It is really important to get a mammogram and do self breast exams. Have a set date every month and check yourself in the shower. If you notice anything please get it checked out. A yearly mammogram is a great idea too. I know some people get one the day after their birthday so they won’t forget. We get so busy with life and this is something we really have to remember to do. Everyone usually remembers their birthday so, pick a day or close to a day that you won’t forget.

I wanted to tell you guys about an event where you can help raise money for breast cancer. Del Webb, an active adult community builder, is sponsoring a series of Cook for the Cure® events across the nation to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. These events are an easy and fun way for people to support the fight against breast cancer- by simply attending. You are able to attend for free, there is a suggested donation of $2 to help fight breast cancer. It looks like a lot of fun. There is one close to my house so hopefully I will be able to attend.

From July 15- 24, 45 Del Webb communities across the nation will be hosting the events.

They are free, open to the public and will feature:
• Cooking demonstrations
• Food samplings
• Live entertainment
• Silent auctions
• Raffles, prizes and more
Attendees are invited to come eat, enjoy the Del Webb lifestyle and enter to win KitchenAid® small appliances. Those interested in attending can find a community nearby and RSVP on Del Webb’s website.

In addition to the public events hosted by Del Webb communities, many Del Webb residents are also hosting private dinner parties to benefit the cause. Proceeds go toward Susan G. Komen for the Cure® for breast cancer research.

Del Webb is sponsoring Cooks for the Cure as part of the event’s 10th anniversary, which challenges America to host 1,000 dinner parties to raise money for breast cancer research and community outreach programs. The annual event has raised nearly $8 million since 2001 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

I have a giveaway for you guys. I am so excited because I love KitchenAid products.

One (1) lucky winner will win a Cook for the Cure® edition, pink KitchenAid® Mixer.

  1. I would give a go at jello cake - it can even be pink!
It's super simple, too - bake a white cake (from a box mix is fine). After it's cooled, poke shallow holes about 1/2 inches apart across the surface of the cake. Mix up gelatin of your choice of flavor/color (1 cup warm water to 1 3 oz pkg gelatin), and pour over the cake. Refrigerate. After it's cooled and set up, top the whole cake with whipped topping. Easy, fun to do with kids, and a recipe I've always associated with summer!

  57. We have been affected by Breast Cancer in our family on both sides. My grandmothers both passed away of Breast Cancer, and my wife's Uncle, a P.A. is a Breast Cancer survivor. Although it is more rare in Males, it does affect them as well. My wife's aunts also have it, and her grandmother passed away from it. We have four little girls and we are very concerned with their chances of getting it. This must be stopped. We are always happy to support anyone who is trying to raise money and awareness to the cause.

  107. This is one of my favorite appetizer recipes: Mardi Gras Shrimp. I wish I could credit it to its originator, but it was passed on to me by a friend: Ingredients

    1 1/2 pounds medium shrimp, shell-on
    1/2 cup butter
    1/4 cup worcestershire sauce
    2 tablespoons brown sugar
4 teaspoons garlic, minced or pressed
    4 teaspoons paprika
    4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
    2 bay leaves
    2 teaspoons fresh rosemary, minced
2 teaspoons fresh ground black pepper
    1 teaspoon dried basil
    1 teaspoon dried oregano
    1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
3/4 cup beer, at room temperature

    Directions

Preheat the oven to 450°F. Cut each shrimp lengthwise
through the curved part of the shell and devein, leaving
    the shell on.

In a 10-inch ovenproof skillet, melt the butter over
medium heat. Add the Worcestershire sauce, brown
sugar, garlic, paprika, lemon juice, bay leave, rosemary,
pepper, basil, oregano and cayenne. Cook, uncovered,
until fragrant, 3 to 4 minutes. Add the shrimp and toss
to coat with the seasoning mixture. Place the pan in the
oven and bake, uncovered, for 10 minutes. Pour in the
beer, shake pan to mix, and continue baking until the
shrimp are firm and opaque, 2 to 3 minutes longer.
Serve the shrimp in bowls with bread to dunk into the

    1 quart fresh strawberries
    1 package strawberry gel
    1 container whipped cream
    1 pre-made pie crust

So easy! Dice the strawberries. Mix with the strawberry gel. Top with whipped cream. Serve!

  138. my sis made this for a family picnic

    3 cans frozen pink lemonade
    Water
1 pkg. sherbet (strawberry, if possible)
    Lemon may be substituted
1 box strawberries, washed and hulled
    1 bottle ginger ale
    Pink food coloring (optional)
    Ice ring

Make an ice ring the night before by placing plain water in a round, ring mold. Add half of the strawberries to mold. Then freeze.

To make punch, prepare the frozen pink lemonade as directed on the can and chill. Add the balance of strawberries to chilled lemonade, then the sherbet, broken up slightly; gently stir. Just before serving, add the ginger ale and the ice ring.
