Noah is a really picker eater. I can fit all the healthy
foods he likes to eat on an index card. I am not sure why he is so picky. One
of the things he really enjoys to eat is yogurt. His favorite flavor is cherry
of course. He isn’t a big fan of variety with fruit on the bottom but he will
eat it in a pinch. He likes to take Danimals in his lunch at school. Dannon is
moving towards nonGMO ingredients. As a mom, that really excites me. They will
provide consumers with a choice of more natural products. They are evolving all
products from their three flagship brands Dannon, Oikos and their kids line
Danimals toward the use of nonGMO ingredients. These flagship products represent approximately
50% of their sales.
Since most cow feed in the US is genetically modified today, Dannon is also working with feed suppliers and farmer partners to start planting nonGMO feed as soon as possible to fulfill their needs. Once these changes are implemented, the products from these three brand families will contain milk from cows fed only nonGMO feed. By the end of 2017 all products within the Dannon brand family will be made with nonGMO ingredients and will have completed the full conversion of cow feed for these products.
Here is Dannon’s perspective on GMOs: We believe the currently approved GMOs are safe. However, we believe there is growing consumer preference for nonGMO ingredients in the US and we want to use the strong relationships we have with our farmer partners to move faster to provide products that address this consumer demand.
Here’s how Dannon is able to do it. They now source all the milk we use directly from farms they know, becoming the first of the leading national yogurt makers to embrace this practice. Dannon says, “We are already very far along in implementing animal welfare practices at our farmer partners’
operations via the Validus Certification system. We’re confident that by July 2016 more than 90% of
our direct milk supply will come from farms that are Validus Certified.” I love that Dannon pledges to make their yogurt nonGMO and how they are now labeling their products.
