Afterschool Snacks with Mediterra

Noah had his first day of 4th grade and it went wonderfully. I loved hearing about every moment he shared with me. When I was shopping for back to school and supplies, I knew that I had to get some after school snacks too. Now that Noah is in fourth grade, snacks during the day are a thing of the past. As soon as he gets home he asks for a snack.

This summer we did quite a bit of traveling and I was pretty lax on the snacks I let him have. Now that we are back to the grindstone, it's time to eat better again. He had a special treat because it was the first day of school and that is tradition. Even though Noah is a picky eater, he does really like Mediterra Nutrition Bars. I like them too as a quick snack while we are busy at home or on the run. I love the savory flavors.

I tend to snack a bit working from home were I have full food access. I try not to pig out in junk food. It's so easy to grab a bowl of chips and just chow down. I would prefer to eat a Sundried Tomato and Basil Mediterra Bar while Noah is doing his homework and chatting about his day. They are wrapped and easy to take on the go. Sometimes during the day I am hungry but I don't want a full meal or I don't have time to make lunch. I can just grab a Mediterra Bar and keep doing housework or write. I don't have to worry about cleaning up or doing dishes. Noah had his first day of 4th grade and it went wonderfully. I loved hearing about every moment he shared with me. Here's an interview with Connie Diekman RD:

Finding nutritious and delicious snacks that both parent and child agree on can be challenging. However, past President of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Connie Diekman, RD suggests that kids love Mediterranean type foods and those could be added to lunches and snacks.

Diekman's ideas for lunch boxes and snacks include:
-        Serve whole grain bread and pastas;
-        Snack on nuts, seeds or low-fat cheese or dairy instead of more processed snack foods; and
-        Choose chicken, and turkey for lunch meats
-        Veggies and dip/hummus; and
-        Convenient to-go items such as nuts, ready-to-eat hummus, Greek yogurt and Mediterra Nutrition Bars.

Mediterra bars, the first nutritional bar based on the Mediterranean Diet,  have won the SupermarketGuru Innovator Award for Kids Lunches http://www.supermarketguru.com/the-lempert-report/whats-in-your-kids-school-lunch.html and a BSC Kids Bestie award http://www.bsckids.com/2014/07/summer-fancy-food-2014-bsckids-bestie-awards/.

“Kids love Mediterra’s Yogurt and Oat Bars with Cherry and Pistachio or Apricot and Pistachio as the fruit and honey make it naturally sweet and it’s flavors they’re accustomed to,” says Diekman. “Both parents and their children like the bars for their taste, but they are solid nutritionals and quite convenient.”

Bottom covered with yogurt-style coating, Mediterra Yogurt & Oat bars are 1.6 ounces and contains seven grams of protein. The bars also feature fig paste, sunflower seeds and raisins. The bars are all-natural, non-GMO and Gluten-Free. Available in retailers throughout North America, the MSRP is $1.99.

Hallie Haim, a 10 year from Los Angeles, California says she likes the Cherry Pistachio Bar and brings them with her to school and tennis practice. “They’re easy, not messy and taste good. One bar will fill me up.”

Fundamentally changing a person’s idea of a snack bar, Mediterra bars feature various fruits, vegetables and grains, providing different snacking options for throughout the day.  Creators of the first truly savory bar, all bars are loaded with fiber, nutrients and vitamins instead of complex sugars and saturated fats.

Not only are Mediterra bars great in lunch boxes or after school snacks but they are great for parents too. There's so many great flavors that they are good for the whole family.
