How to deal with Road Rage

Driving can be stressful, especially when the weather is bad. People drive slower in bad weather for safety reasons. If someone is in a hurry to get somewhere they can get angry when you aren’t driving as fast as they would like. Road rage is a real thing drivers have to deal with. You have to be careful when it comes to someone with road rage. If you experience someone with road rage, try to safely get away from them.  Do not add to their anger by taunting them or saying anything negative. If you are in danger call 911 and report them. If someone cusses you out or make a rude gesture just ignore it. Reacting will not help the situation. Think of your safety and the safety of others. If you are in an accident where the other driver seems very angry do not get out of your car. Call the police and wait for them to arrive.  Waiting until the police come is important for your safety. Remember that you don’t know this person and you aren’t sure what they are capable of. Some road rage just stems from the other driver having a bad day. It’s not personal and you need to defuse the situation by remaining calm. Even if it upsets you, you must stay calm.

If you get cut off or if someone doesn’t let you over when you need to, don’t get upset. Relax. Even if it takes you a little longer getting mad and yelling will not do any good. You can’t use your car as a weapon because you are having a bad day. Use whatever method makes you calm. Listen to music, think about your kids, pray, do whatever it takes to calm down. If you are really stressed out you may cause an accident. Let it go, it was just a minor annoyance. Being impulsive while driving is very dangerous. It will pass and it’s not worth ruining your day over. If road rage is a common occurrence for you consider some kind of anger management or talking to someone to help. Figure out your triggers and force yourself not to react. You can’t control anyone but yourself.
