One of my favorite memories of when I was a teenager was driving across country with my cousin Susie. She’s originally from Texas. We both lived in Indiana. She decided it was time for her to go back home to Texas. Susie and I have always been extremely close. I knew I was going to miss her a lot. We saw each other a lot. I used to go and stay with her. She decided to drive her car Janis while pulling a small trailer with her belongings from Indiana to Texas. I was crazy enough to go with her for the ride. I had planned to fly home from San Antonio. I must have been at least 18 at the time because I remember flying alone.
It was a twenty four hour drive! We stayed in Arkansas in a shady motel. The road trip was a lot of fun. My cousin lived almost on the border of Mexico. It made me nervous with the car trailer behind us. It made it harder to drive because the car was essentially longer and had to pull the stuff along. Thankfully, we made it without issue. My dear cousin Susie sometimes forgets to put gas in her car. We have been stranded without gas a couple times in the past. I admittedly kept an eye on it. It’s fun to go on road trips with family. I was able to spend a couple weeks with my cousins. I had never been to Texas. It was July so it was HOT. It wasn’t just a little hot, it was scorching hot. We were able to go to Mexico too. That was really neat. We went to my cousin’s friends house and it was so neat to be in Mexico. It was only a thirty minute drive. That’s the only time I have ever been to Mexico. It’s pretty cool though because it wasn’t a tourist area. It was just a town across the border. I would love to go back someday.
