Cars Should Have Names Too

My family has had a habit of naming their cars. It all started with my cousin’s car Trudy. I am not sure why her name was Trudy, but it fit her personality perfectly. Trudy was an older clunker hatchback. It reminded me of a little old lady with her own little quirks. Trudy was an awesome car. My cousin and I went on many adventures in Trudy. You had to talk nicely to her and sometimes say Come on Trudy to get her to go or start. She was well loved by everyone who rode in her. My cousin was a college student at the time she owned Trudy. I miss her.  My other cousin had a car who was named Sherman. He had started staying with my grandma after my grandpa had passed away. He was there to keep an eye on our grandma and to keep her company. I spent a lot of time at my grandma’s house so I got to hang out with my cousin a lot. I always liked that, because we are twelve years apart in age, so growing up I didn’t see him as much as my other cousins. I would see him on occasion at family things. He used to run me to the store and take me to Mc Donald’s and other places. Sherman always smelled like fabric softener. I never did figure out why that was. I think he had some in the trunk.

My aunt had a Neon who was named Janis. Janis became my cousin’s car and we drove to Texas in Janis. She was of course named after Janis Joplin. My mom had a car named Gracie too. The car my mom drove when Noah was really little was named The Green Car. The Green Car was the best car ever. Noah named it because it was green. The Green Car was always in the stories I would make up about a little boy named Noah. Do you name your car?

Check out my post about naming your car and learn about some of the famous named cars in movies and TV.

They Named the Town What?

Sometimes I can be immature when it comes to humor. I love laughing at silly things that someone my age probably shouldn't. It's not anything hurtful. I don't make fun of people. I remember when I visited my friend Logan in North Carolina. We were going on an adventure and we stopped at a gas station in the town of Blowing Rock. I am not sure why I thought it was such a funny name for a town. I think it may have been because it was in the mountains. The town was really cool. I really enjoyed it. I miss my friend Logan a lot. We were really close up until his death. He always had a smile and a kind word for a friend. He was so amazing and such a sweet soul. Except for the time he made me eat livermush. Maybe I wasn't so bright not realizing it was actually liver and not just a cute southern name.

I am always reading signs and usually telling Noah where we are when we travel. Some town names are odd. It can be fun to take turns calling out town names. It's also great for when you are playing the city alphabet game. I will warn you that you may have to whip out Google to prove it's really a town name. You could also see who can come up with the funniest or strangest town name. Have you ever visited a town with a funny name?

Here's an article I wrote about funny town names.

I used to Collect Bumper Stickers

I used to collect random things like shot glasses, lighters and even bumper stickers. I didn’t stick the bumper stickers on anything though. I would use a push pin and hang them on my wall. I was worried about them fading or being ripped off. I wanted to keep my funny bumper stickers that I had found. I had everything from funny ones to band bumper stickers. My mom used to have a bumper sticker on her car that said “Caribbean Soul.” It was so cool. Everything about that car was awesome. It was nicknamed by Noah as the green car. I miss that car because that was the car Noah was a baby in. He was brought home from the hospital in that car. I know it was just a car but it was special. It was a very sad day when she turned it in. I think that bumper stickers are like tattoos for cars. They give it character and personality. It is a form of expression and can even remind you of places you have been. It is also a great way to identify your car if you have a common color and make. You may find several of the same car and color if you are in a big parking garage.

Bumper stickers can also be entertaining after being in the car for a long time. They give you something to read and think about you. I personally like funny ones that make me laugh. There are so many funny bumper stickers out there. One of my favorites is “Don’t make me release my flying monkeys.” I love the Wizard of Oz. Another favorite of mine is “It is as bad as you think and they ARE out to get you”. It reminds me of Gibb’s Rules from NCIS which is my favorite show. A lot of bumper stickers are in fact boring but I compiled a list of funny bumper stickers.

Road Trip to Random Places in the US

I want to take a road trip with my friends and go out and see the strangest and most unique things that the United States has to offer. I think it would be so much fun to plan an entire trip and start an album of photos next to all the strange things we find. It would not only be fun to do but it would be so much fun to plan. It would be best if it were kind of spur of the moment. I went to Florida with some friends after a memorial service.  We talked about going at like 3 pm and that night we left for Florida for ten days. The trip was just what I needed. I like the randomness of these things. It really doesn’t matter where you live or where you want to go, you can find many different things to see in any state. If you want to make it a themed trip across the US like in the movie Kalifornia you could definitely do that too.

I try to see strange things while traveling already. When we were visiting my cousin’s family in Chicago, several years ago, on the way home we saw signs for a candy factory. I love candy so much and we ended up stopping and buying some gummy bears. Noah doesn’t remember it and I don’t think I let him have any candy because he was only two but I would love to take him again so he can remember it. There have been many times I would coax my mom to stop so we could see some random oddity while traveling in the car. We never went too far off course but I really want to plan a road trip to visit some strange things in the Midwest. There are some pretty cool things, interesting things and just plain strange things.  Two of the things on my list I have heard them mentioned on different TV shows. It made me smile because they were both in the Midwest.
