Time to buy a New Blanket

I have something to tell you guys. I am 32 and I have a blanket.  I sleep with this blanket every night since I was pregnant with Noah. I don’t sleep well without it. If I am going on vacation for more than a week, I bring it with me. It is not a small blanket by any means, It’s a queen sized quilt. It is just the most comfortable thing in the world to me.  This blanket is 10 years old. It has been falling apart for the last couple years. A few months ago, it ripped. It didn’t rip on the sides but down the middle. I had to get up really quick and I guess I kicked up my legs and then it happened. I was so sad. I know it was just a blanket.  I am 32 years old, suck it up and move on. I couldn’t, I tried to sew it back together. I can’t sew so that didn’t work. I was heartbroken. I was trying to figure out how on earth to save my blanket. I thought, maybe I could find one exactly like it. I was unsuccessful. I then went shopping at Target. I didn’t find anything I liked. I decided that I would just staple it back together. So I made my precious blanket in to Frankenblankey. It is green after all. Even possibly the color of Frankenstein himself.

Even though I stapled my blanket, I don’t think it is working too well. For the first few weeks I had to sleep like I was in a cocoon and it was weird. The staples are falling out, and I have to be careful where they are at all times. I think it is probably time that I retire my beloved blanket and buy a new one. I would want something similar, in color and thickness because I want to be warm enough but not sweating every morning.  I would like a soft and comfortable quilt to sleep under. I am looking in to allergy free down bedding. I like the feel of down but not all the feathers and sneezing it brings.  I am sure I will love this blanket as much as the old one, if I take the time to find the right one. I will probably also keep my old blanket in a closet and remember all the times I held baby Noah wrapped in it, all the shows we watched together with it and how we would go in our cave with the spiders, scurrying along as we played pretend.

Nation Napping Day Protect-A-Bed Giveaway

Photobucket
You can call it what you want, a nap, a siesta, a little snooze, a cat nap, or a nip nap. I love to take naps. Now that I am a mom I don’t take nearly as many naps as I used to. During my son’s daily naps I am usually doing some kind of work or watching something that includes a judge and not cartoon characters. It is a time for me to get things done. I try and occasionally take a little nap but it usually ends up not going as planned.

Today March 15, 2010 is National Napping Day. I don’t think they could pick a better day for this. It’s the first day after Daylight Savings started and we all lost an hour. Our internal clocks were messed with and we are all feeling it. I am definitely going to cuddle up with my son today and take a nap or take one myself during naptime. Everyone should take a nap every now and then. It is refreshing and it can be a mood lifter.

Protect-A-Bed offers consumers a complete line of protective bedding products to create a Healthy Sleep Zone. The unique technology featured in Protect-A-Bed’s mattress and pillow protectors was developed in South Africa in 1980 before the company was officially established in the United States in 2000. Now selling in 27 countries, Protect-A-Bed is a worldwide leader in mattress protection innovation. The company developed the proprietary Miracle Membrane and patented Bug Lock and Secure Seal, which help create a dry, bed bug free, anti-allergy sleep zone for people of all ages.

However, those who nap the best understand a sleeping place needs protection from allergens and dust mites. After all, waking from a nap with the sniffles is no way to wake up at all.

Research shows 10 percent of the general public and as many as 90 percent of people with allergic asthma (depending on the study you read) have an allergy to dust mites. And, dust mites love spoiling our napping refuge, taking up residence in mattresses and pillows. In fact, as many as two million dust mites can thrive in an unprotected mattress.

Besides dust mites, it’s not unusual for other allergy triggers like pollen and pet dander to become trapped within mattresses. By using a mattress protector, allergy sufferers can create an impermeable barrier between themselves and the allergens within their bed. By coupling mattress protection with pillow protectors that seal allergens within pillows, people can create a virtually allergy-free nap space.

On Monday only, Protect-A-Bed will be hosting a Twitter contest where they will be giving away sets of Premium Pillow Protectors to those who share the funniest place they’ve ever taken a nap. To enter, follow @Protect_A_Bed on Twitter and use the hashtag #nappingday to share your funniest or strangest nap location.
So today, harness the creative power that comes from napping, and embrace your inner Da Vinci. And remember, the art of napping needs a canvas, and that canvas comes from Protect-A-Bed.
