Eat Eggs Ethically with Blue Sky Family Farms

I have always loved eggs. When I was little I used to eat what my Grandma Diana called Chickie Eggs. I still eat them and my dad even sent me some egg cups to do so. I lost the one I had and I was so sad. I love eggs in any way. Scrambled, Soft boiled, hard boiled, sunny side up yum! I also love to bake with eggs. I always laugh when people come up with different ways to separate eggs. It’s really not that hard. If you are careful and patient. I really enjoy doing it. I remember once I had to make angel food cake in school, and I dropped a yolk in my egg whites. I was able to just grab it out. The teacher said it was the best angel food cake she ever tasted. Noah is working on the skill of cracking eggs. We aren’t quite there yet.  I think it’s an important skill to have in cooking. Eggs are so good for you too.  I go on egg kicks where I want to eat them every day for about a week. I even know if you want to use up eggs quickly like if you are going on vacation, you can make angel food cake because it usually calls for 12 egg whites. I had the opportunity to work with Blue Sky Family Farms. I received eggs from a shipping company. It was pretty cool. I was kind of nervous that they would be all broken. They managed to all survive the journey. I am sure Blue Sky Family Farms knew what they were doing though! I will add it to my list of interesting things I have received at home.

I am in the middle of one of my egg kicks so, I immediately made eggs the day I received them. I really enjoyed eating them. They taste so much fresher than the eggs I was used to buying at the store. I hadn’t really noticed that there was a difference. I knew that some eggs were cage free and organic but I wasn’t aware of the difference.  I also always bought white shell eggs. I remember my grandma Diana always buying the brown ones. The eggs also came at the perfect time too. I have been wanting to make quiche for a long time. So I thought this delicious egg dish full of Swiss Cheese, bacon and onion would be a perfect thing to make with my eggs.

Here’s my Quiche Recipe:

Frozen pie crust
1 small onion or half a medium one
 10 slices of bacon
6 slices of Swiss cheese
6 eggs
1 cup cream
Eighth teaspoon of pepper

Preheat the oven to 450° place the pie crust on a cookie sheet. Poke holes in the pie crust with a fork.

Bake the crust for 5 min. take out of the oven turn down the oven to 375°.

Chop onion, cheese, and bacon and combine together in a bowl. Place them in the pie crust.

Crack the eggs in a bowl beat them lightly together. Add cream in and mix. Finally add pepper. Carefully add egg mixture in the pie crust.

DID YOU TURN THE OVEN DOWN TO 375?

Gently put the quiche in the oven. Remember to keep it on the cookie sheet so if your quiche over flows you won’t have a huge mess.

Bake for 45 minutes until golden brown. Place a knife half way to the center and make sure it comes out clean.

Let the quiche sit for 10 minutes and then enjoy.

WishGarden Herbal Remedies

Winter is in full swing. There’s the cold air and yes, germs everywhere.  I think that because we spend a lot more time inside, it gives us more opportunities to get colds and the flu. The germs are more concentrated. Noah is in the third grade so he is exposed to the germs of his classmates and their families. He also rides the school bus so he is exposed to many more kids who may have viruses too. Thankfully, Noah has a really good immune system but I end up getting sick when he doesn’t.  We all know about cold medicines that will help us feel better, but there’s things we can take to help boost our immune systems. I am very careful about what I put in my body. I was introduced to herbal supplements from a friend of mine. I didn’t really know much about them before that.  I had a chance to learn about a company called WishGarden Herbal Remedies.

After my second cold, I was really excited to try out Kick-Ass Immune. As I am getting older, I find myself getting sick more often. I am a single mom and getting sick is not something I have time for. I remember getting the flu when Noah was four. It was awful. I threw up for 4 days straight. I thought I was going to die. I would get up to get Noah whatever he needed, throw up, get it and give it to him then throw up again on the way back to bed. I never wanted to feel like that again. I have been taking Kick-Ass immune per the directions which is 4-6 pumps under my tongue 3 times a day. While it’s not guaranteed to prevent any illness, I am using it as an extra layer of defense.  Here’s what’s in Kick-Ass Immune:  Yerba Santa leaf, Baptisia root, Elderflower, Yarrow aerials, Goldenseal root, Echinacea Purpurea root, Lovage Root, Cinnamon bark, and Osha root. You can also put it in water if you don’t want to spray it under your tongue.

I knew I was starting to feel older when I would start pulling random muscles. I would reach for the remote from behind me and I would pull a muscle. It is so painful that I would want to throw up. I think that it’s because I am so tense, it’s easier for it to just pull.  I also have quite of bit of stress when it comes to paying bills and just normal everyday life. Being a blogger it’s not like having a steady paycheck that you can count on every week or two. It can make me tense up worrying about finances. I have the worry gene so it makes everything worse. I also was able to try out Serious Relaxer which is a spray that can help relax your body from stress, muscle tension and help calm you down after a busy day. I received Serious Relaxer before Christmas and with all the holiday baking, shopping and running around I definitely needed a way to help myself relax. I use this one as needed. I just squirt 5 pumps under my tongue and it seems to help me. If I need it, I will repeat in five minutes. I have only had to repeat once. Here’s the active ingredients in Serious Relaxer: Wood Betony (European) aerials, Wild Lettuce aerials, Valerian root, Black Cohosh root, Passionflower aerials, Scullcap aerials, Ginger root, and Hops strobiles

The last one I tried is called Sleepy Nights and Fresh Mornings. I occasionally have trouble sleeping. It’s not an everyday thing so I wouldn’t say I am an insomniac. It comes and goes. Sometimes I will sleep great for weeks and then all the sudden my sleep schedule will be messed up for a week. Once your sleep cycle is messed up, it’s really hard to get back on track. When I was younger, I would just stay up all night and day and that did the trick. Of course I was younger and if I took a nap forget about it. I was stuck again. I can’t stay up all night and be a functioning mom to my son. I had been using Benadryl to sleep but that has a nasty groggy effect and I am still tired when I wake up.  I would drag myself out of bed. I knew that was probably a bad idea anyways. I was more likely to nap the following day. I decided that I was going to use Sleepy Nights instead and it helps me drift off to dreamland without feeling like I am a zombie mommy the next morning. I seem to be sleeping much better when I use Sleepy Nights and Fresh Mornings. I use 5 squirts under my tongue at bedtime or when I wake up in the middle of the night. You can repeat in 10-15 minutes if you are not asleep. You can’t do that with other sleep aids. You are stuck if you don’t fall asleep.  Contains no Valerian, No Kava on purpose. Active ingredients are: Passionflower aerials, Scullcap aerials and Hops Strobiles.

Teach Your Children about Animals and Protecting the Earth with Birdsong and The Eco-Wonders

Noah has always loved music. I think it started when I was pregnant with him. I would listen to music and I could feel him kicking me. I knew that he was going to really like music. I would also put on music when I was worried because he hadn’t moved in a while. I didn’t realize that babies sleep in your uterus too. He listened to music every night when he was a baby to help him fall asleep. When he was a toddler he listened to the same cd over and over again. Now he loves music class at school. He loves to sing and dance. He actually has his own song he made up. It doesn’t really have any words, it’s just kind of a humming to the same tune. I would say its Asian inspired. We call it Noah’s happy song. He sings it when he’s playing or concentrating on something. It is just something he likes to do. He still likes to listen to music before bed. He had been listening to a cd I made years ago with all the songs my mom and I listened to on road trips. Noah’s favorite song on the cd has been known to be on repeat before. Noah also loves animals. It’s funny because his name came first and his love for animals, especially sea life and fish came later.

I recently learned about a series of music by Birdsong and The Eco-Wonders.  They sing amazing and catchy songs about animals and sea life. I mean if there was a band for Noah, this is it. They use real animals as their inspiration. The songs are also eco-friendly and teach children about keeping the earth clean. That’s a really important message for not only kids but for everyone. Trash isn’t only ugly to see on the side of the road, it can be deadly to animals. If a plastic shopping bag gets in to the ocean or a bay, it looks like a sting ray and a sting ray can get caught in it and die. It’s not ok to be lazy and throw things on the ground, or out of your car window. Take the extra time to throw it away. Keep a reusable tote bag in the car and throw it in there. Your act of selfishness because you didn’t wait to throw something away could cause an animal harm.

Birdsong has two albums. If I were a Fish (and other Ocean songs for kids) is a great collection of songs about the sea. Not only is it fun, it’s also educational. I know as a mom, I sneak in every bit of education I can.  Your kids will have fun dancing and singing to these songs. Songs that teach your kids are important. When I was in the sixth grade, I learned a song about the presidents, to this day I can still say all the presidents in order. It sounds kind of strange but it has helped me in life. I really like the song Keep the Ocean Clean. I love Sea Otter Grooving. It’s so fun to dance to. Noah and I dance along.

The second cd is Everything is Connected. It’s true if you think about it, everything is connected. We are all part of an eco-system that works together in harmony. If you get rid of a part of it, it affects everyone. If we had no more trees, the animals that live in the trees would have no home. We would have no shade and less oxygen and animals would have no food.  The songs are also educational. Even the Worm Poop Song is funny and yet catchy. We have to take care of the Earth because it’s our duty to protect it.

The albums are available on CD or on iTunes. Check out the website to watch the stunning videos.  You can even catch Birdsong in concert if you are lucky! There’s also free coloring pages.  The cds would make a great Valentine’s Day gift for your kids. It’s different than the traditional candy or stuffed animal that will just be tossed on the pile.

Sign up to receive a FREE download of a great song about turtles, I am sure you will be hooked and want the rest of the songs too.
