My friend Kailani has a wonderful Friday meme called Aloha Fridays.
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
Today's Question is: What is your favorite food that you can no longer get because they stopped making it or stopped selling it anywhere you could find it?
It seems like most of the time I start liking something new, They stop making it or somehow it becomes unavailable. It frustrates me to no end.
My favorite food that I can't get is Freybe Salami. I love the Gipsy Salami, the Black Pepper Salami and the Parmesan Salami. They used to sell it at a local grocery store back in 1999. I fell in love. It is so delicious. They stopped selling it here. I was heart broken. I know it is kinda silly to be heart broken over food but it was so good. For Christmas 2005 I got some Pepper Salami as a gift from my mom. Its made in Canada. I keep hoping one of my Canadian friends will send me some but it hasn't happened yet.
A glimmer of hope came the other day when Gourmet Deli's website was finally working after two years of being under construction, I was so excited. I tweeted and tweeted and when I found some of my Gipsy Salami I was so happy. So I tried to order some. The credit card was denied. I tried for 3 hours to get it to go through and it wouldn't. I called the cc company, the card is fine. So I keep trying and nothing. I started to suspect it was a scam. It said that it did paypal payments but I couldn't click anything. I thought since it is the website Freybe said to use to order with the link and everything I thought ok. It sounds legit. So I finally decided to email Gourmet Deli and see about the Paypal options. I wrote them and bam it came back undeliverable. So I decided to email the president of the bigger company to see if he could help. No Response. I started following Freybe on twitter. They haven't responded. I thought maybe there was a glitch so I tried again today. Nope didn't work.
I went from really excited to pretty bummed out. I hope Fryebe can help me. All I want is my Salami! Freybe can you hear me?
So What is your tragic food story?
OMG I know It never fails if I find something EVERYONE In the house likes They stop making it! The recent being The pizza pasta complete meal thing. The kids loved this stuff and it was great to have when running short on time!
ReplyDeleteThis is a good one! Mine has to be this seasoned pizza crust that Lil Ceasar's used to make when I was pregnant with my son. Before I tried it that way, I never ate pizza before. They stopped making it and I still miss it. It has been about nine years!
ReplyDeleteI guess i miss all the food my grandma's making... i can't find good smoked ribs .. i can't find good bread ... and many more... so yeah lots of tragic food story here since moving to Germany:P

I hope you get your salami!! My fave foods are all homemade, so I don't have too much trouble, as long as I don't lose my recipes!

The only one I can think of right now is Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Dough ice cream that Friendly's used to have and it was amazing.

ReplyDeleteI used to love butterscotch ripple ice cream. Years ago when I was 19 they had already stopped packaging it in half gallons, but a local ice cream shop had it in 3 gallon tubs. I remember buying one because my parents had a huge freezer. It lasted us for a really long time. But I haven't seen it anywhere since.
ReplyDeleteThe tragedy ensued years ago when Red Lobster stopped carrying their heavenly hush puppies and replaced them with garlic biscuits! {Which are delicious, but they're not hush puppies...}
ReplyDeleteThis is a silly one, but I used to LOVE Munch-Ems. They are crackers and I swear I could eat a whole box! I can't find them anywhere anymore, but maybe that's a good thing LOL!

I can't get the stuffed crust pizza at the store anymore. WalMart stopped carrying them. Sigh.

ReplyDeleteI used to like Homerun Inn plum cheese tomato pizza and every single store stopped selling just that variety. I swear I cried for months.
