Winter Car Hacks

No one likes to spend time getting their car ready in the morning on a cold and snowy day. You want to run to your car and seek shelter. Most of the time you have to clear the snow, scrape the ice and it can easily add another 30 minutes to your commute time. That means you have to leave the house earlier or possibly be late. If you have a really busy morning, you may even have to get up earlier. It’s cold and you are miserable, but you have to make sure you can see where you are going and be safe. There are different things you can do to make your winter mornings easier. I wanted to share with you some Winter Car Hacks that are really easy and use things you probably already have in your home.

Here are 10 great Winter Hacks to make driving in your car easier this winter.

If you misplace your scraper, you can use a cd or an old gift card to clean your windows. You never use the big store discount card anyways. You have the one on your key chain and the app too.

Parking facing the East will de-ice your car with the help of the sun. Since the sun rises in the east it will melt snow and ice.

Have old ugly boots? Keep them in your trunk in case you need to walk through the snow.

Cover your windshield wipers with socks so they don’t freeze. Stand them up straight.

Use a cheap piece of carpet or a towel on your windshield so you can just lift away the snow and prevent ice buildup. Secure with the wipers.

If you have frozen locks take a lighter and warm up the key to help thaw your locks. Be careful, it might be hot.

Spray the cracks of your doors with cooking spray or WD-40 to help prevent your doors freezing shut. It will also help with that oh so annoying car squeak.

Keep Cat litter in your trunk so you can gain traction on the snow if you get stuck.

Keep an extra pair of socks and gloves in your glove box in case yours get wet.

Use quart sized zip top bags on your side view mirrors to prevent them from getting icy. Just pull them off in the morning and place in your glove box or use it as an emergency trash bag.

Don’t forget to have an emergency winter kit too, full of water, food, matches, candles, a first aid kit, jumper cables, flares, flashlights with extra batteries and blankets. It could save your life.
