Say YES to Good Palm Oil

This post is in partnership with  RSPO, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I can be very picky about what I allow Noah to eat. As I have said before, Noah is a really picky eater, so what he does eat has to be mostly healthy. I am sure you have probably heard of Palm Oil. Palm Oil is oil made from palm trees. Like most things, there are good palm oils and bad palm oils. I am sure you are wondering what the difference is? Good Palm Oil is palm oil that is certified sustainable palm oil. Did you know that 50% of the products in your supermarket contain Palm Oil? Some of those products that contain palm oil are margarine and chocolate to donuts and cookies, to even household items like lipstick, shampoo and soap. It is really hard to not have something with palm oil in your home.

Around 70% of the world’s cosmetics and household detergents contain raw materials derived from palm oil. Globally, 13.47 million tons of palm oil is consumed but just 21% of it is certified as being from sustainable sources. At RSPO, they believe that achieving 100% certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) in Europe is not only a realistic ambition but a vital one too. The production of bad palm oil is rapidly destroying virgin rainforests and ecosystems and causing air pollution to rise and putting many species at risk of extinction.

If grown sustainably, good palm oil can benefit local communities with fair working conditions and help protect valuable species. It is very important to always choose products with good palm oil to protect our planet. You may not know that you have a choice. You don’t have to purchase items that contain bad palm oil.  We need to stand up and speak for the animals and plants who have no voice.  One of my favorite children’s books is The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. I think of all the Truffalla Trees being cut down when I think about bad palm oil.  We don’t want to destroy our planet.

Please join me in pledging to only purchase products with 100% certified sustainable palm oil.
