Once you have had a car for a while, it starts to get lived
in. It gets dirty, it may start to smell like old French fries. No matter how
hard I try I always end up dropping a few fries in the cracks of no return. I
can’t tell you how many time Noah has thrown up in the car or how many times he
has spilled something when he was younger. The wear and tear definitely can add
up. Mom cars are gross.
There’s always some kind of mystery stain that you have
no idea what it is. There’s also a crumb desert in the cracks of the seats.
You
don’t make it to true mom status until you find a week old bottle or sippy cup
under your seat. You wonder where the stench is coming from, but you can’t
figure it out. Your car starts taking on its own personality. You may become
ashamed of having others who don’t have kids in your car. You don’t want them
to see the ketchup stains, the coffee you spilled a week ago while you were
waiting for the car line to move. You have random items of clothing in your
car. You lose your little one’s socks or shoes depending on what they took off
that day.
I remember when I was in a friend’s car and she had a melted
crayon on the floor in the backseat. I learned very early in my mom career to
never leave crayons in the car. It seems like common sense but crayons are
great kid distractors. You may drive an older car, so it doesn’t really
matter. You have probably been putting
off a new car for a few years. Moms tend to put their family’s needs before
their own. Maybe you were saving for a down payment but something came up as it
always seems to do.
You don’t even have to get a new car, there are so many
great used cars that are out there. It’s time to think of mom and get rid of
the dump truck and start your summer with a new or used car. You definitely
deserve it. Remember that it’s really important that you have a good reliable
car to transport your kids to school, practices and everywhere else they need
to go. You don’t want to end up stranded on the side of the road.
