There are many benefits of working from home.
I have been self employed for ten years. Before I was self employed, I
worked in childcare for five years. When I was pregnant with Noah, I
knew that I would likely have a high risk pregnancy from the beginning.
It ended up being a lot more high risk than I thought.
When
I was 18 weeks pregnant, my specialist found that I had Placenta Previa
with the cord under the placenta. I was put on partial bed rest and had
to wait to see if the placenta moved. I was only allowed to go to
doctor’s appointments and occasionally to the store. I found myself
bored and started looking for work at home jobs. This was in 2006, so
there weren’t a lot of opportunities that weren’t scams. After Noah was
born, I decided I wanted to stay home with him. Daycare was out of the
question.
When
Noah was two years old, I learned about blogging. I was like, I can do
that. Granted, it took me quite a while before I made any money. I
really enjoyed blogging and met a lot of great people. I have had a
bunch of awesome opportunities.
It
can be challenging at times. I really enjoy it though. I love being
able to work in my pajamas. It does take a lot of time and self
discipline. I don’t have anyone looking over my shoulder or to keep
myself on task. Thankfully, I have a routine and am able to get work
done. There are so many different ways to make money from home.
I
have also had other work at home jobs. I was an assistant community
manager for a parent forum. I would post topics, comment on member’s
posts, moderated content and helped create and manage employees. I
really enjoyed that job but I ended up getting sick and having surgery.
When I was finally able to work again, they ended up letting everyone go
due to no budget. I had another work from home job where I called
restaurants and placed orders for a food delivery website. It kind of
made me feel weird but it was easy and very hungry. All I would do is
order food but never got to eat any of it.
When you decide you want to work from home, there’s some things to consider.
You need to decide what you would like to do. As I mentioned, there’s a lot of choices. You can do everything from selling homemade products to writing to customer service.
What skills do you have to offer? What makes you stand out? You might want to consider doing some professional development.
It would be beneficial. I have had to figure out things throughout the
years. I wish I would have taken some classes to brush up on skills. I
have had computer knowledge for a long time, but there were things I
didn’t know how to do. I would love for you to save time and take
classes so you know exactly what you are doing and possibly even have a
leg up on the other applicants.
Having
a resume and cover letter is also important for working at home. You
can list all your previous employers, education, skills and
certifications. Working from home is definitely a real job and it’s
important to treat it as such.
The flexibility of working from home
is great. I love that I can work from anywhere or travel when I want
to. That’s of course because I am self employed and in charge of what I
do and when.
