Noah and I Love Playing Bingo

It has been almost a year since Noah's first Bingo game on the cruise. He still talks about wanting to play bingo and how much fun he had. He actually asks me if game shows were bingo. They had the lights and music like the games we went to.  We have seen bingo halls around that he points out. My almost six year old can read the word bingo. I am not sure how old you have to be to go to a bingo hall but if he's old enough... It's a date.  I think it would be fun to play with him again. He is a good luck charm.  He will surely bring smiles to the other player’s faces.  He gets so excited with each number called. His little face lights up.  Winning at bingo isn’t important to me, it would be great but I love to play.  I decided to Google it and there are lots of places to play bingo around me every day of the week. I guess I will have to call them and see if he can accompany me. I know that he isn’t old enough to play himself because you have to be 18 or 21 to win so, he would be there for moral support and as my good luck charm.  That way I don’t need to enlist a babysitter to watch him too.

I haven't told him yet that he will probably play bingo in school. He has requested fish bingo and transportation bingo games.  When kids play bingo it can be a fun and educational game.  I remember playing color and shape bingo. There are even math bingos where you have to solve the math problem to know if your number was called. I had some teachers that would make their own themed bingo games for holidays. I think I will make some bingo games for Noah to practice reading and spelling words. I hope playing bingo will be another tool to help him learn.  I also hope he gets the same joy I did when I played bingo in school.

Do You Remember Mr.Sketch Markers?

When I was young, I loved playing school and coloring as a lot of little girls do. I also loved markers, just not any markers but Mr. Sketch markers.  I am sure if the name Mr. Sketch doesn’t ring a bell the words scented markers will. I remember being so excited the first time I was able to get my very own set of Mr. Sketch markers. Those were the it thing back then.  I would smell them more than I would use them it seemed because they smelled so good.  They were thankfully save for me to do so, not like Sharpies that would make you feel light headed if you weren’t in a well ventilated area.   I remember coloring with them with my friends and how cool they were.  I knew they were still around as I had seen them at stores. I almost bought some a number of times, but I decided not to. We went to Office Depot today and there they were calling my name. I saw that they were on sale for five dollars, when they are normally ten dollars. I loved the markers but I wasn’t going to pay ten dollars for them. I didn’t love them that much. So, I bought some. I think I bought them a while back too, because I remember finding them but they could just be really old markers. There were only two of them that I found so I think they were tucked away in a box somewhere through the years.

So I am the very proud owner of twelve Mr. Sketch markers.  Noah was amazed by them and tried very hard to get me to give them to him. I will let him use them closely supervised as markers and almost 6 year olds should be.  I am not sure he knows that they are scented I mentioned it and he asked if he could smell but I am excited to see his little face light up at the different scents.  Don’t ask me what my favorite scent is because I love a lot of them. Watermelon, Cherry, Blueberry, Licorice, and so on are all awesome. I love sharing things from my childhood with my son. I think it makes it even more special for both of us.

Did you have scented markers as a kid? What was your favorite scent?

GetSum App Review

If you follow me on Twitter or are my friend on Facebook you know that I really enjoy playing scrabble. I have won five times more than I have lost. So when I had a chance to review a really cool app called GetSum I was so excited. GetSum is a game that is a lot like scrabble so I couldn't wait to try it. I downloaded the app from iTunes and started playing. I spent hours playing it. It is addictive. Well math is not my favorite thing, you just use basic math. It's great for kids too. Noah is still a little young but someday he will play GetSum with me. It will give you a refresher in math and make you really think. How do you play do you ask? First you either pick if you want to do pass and play which is if you want to play with more than one person in your reach. You can also play with friends anywhere or a random fellow GetSum player. The idea behind the game instead of words you create equations using plus signs, minus signs, multiplication signs and division. At first it seems really easy but the more tiles you use as the game progresses the harder it is, especially when you are searching for a place to lay your tiles. There are certain places you cannot play on the board and if you add to a math problem it has to be equal to the other side.

When I played, I played myself and I was unable to finish a game before running out of moves. I would just resign and try again to get the hang of it. I wish they had computer players because games that you play with others can take a long time because most of the time they aren't waiting for the game. I think GetSum is a fun and educational game. I am determined to win or complete a game.
