You can Talk a Counselor or Get Diet Advice from Amwell

This is a sponsored post with Mums the Word Network and Amwell. All opinions are my own. Noah has been sick a few times in the last year. It’s usually on the weekend or at night. That means he can’t go to his regular doctor. I had to find urgent care places to take him to. One of the places I took him to once be open in the evening so I went to take him only to find out that they changed their hours to only weekend hours. It was very disappointing because I thought I could rely on them to be open. They should have notified people or even updated their website. Thankfully, it wasn’t serious enough to go to the emergency room but I had to wait to have him be seen. We also have a couple pediatric clinics open on the weekends but if it’s in the evening or at night, well I didn’t have many options except for the ER. I don’t believe in using the ER unless it is an absolute emergency. I have been to the ER once in the last ten years for myself. I ended up going when I had my huge tumor and I couldn’t ignore the pain and I could barely move. I knew that I really needed to be seen and I had no idea what was wrong.

I didn’t know about Amwell when he was sick but now I know that I can talk to a doctor and have him be seen online via video. It definitely saves time because you don’t have to make an appointment or wait in a waiting room around other sick people. When you are sick, hearing someone cough or see someone throw up in the waiting room makes you feel ten times worse.  Your immune system is already on overdrive and probably doesn’t want to attack anymore germs. It’s also great for new moms who can worry about everything. When you are a new parent in the middle of the night, a cough or a fever can be a very scary thing. I was a very nervous new mom, I had a very stressful, high risk pregnancy and I was constantly worried about him. Noah was a very healthy baby which I am extremely thankful for.

You can use Amwell from your computer, or your tablet or phone. Sometimes you would rather just explain your symptoms and you can just call so no one sees how sick you really look. If you aren’t physically sick, you can also use Amwell to talk to a doctor about your diet or nutrition. If you are feeling sad or not quite yourself, you can talk to a doctor about psychology. They can give you tips about your diet or how to shake your funk. You may just need to eat healthier or get some exercise. Sometimes you may need to be seen depending on the doctor’s recommendation. What I love about Amwell is that it’s quick and it will help you put your mind at ease. We all search for symptoms and it’s always a bad idea. I remember my oncologist told me not to search for things about my tumor online. I took his advice but that was right before he asked me if I wanted to see a picture of a 47 pound tumor. I declined. He was right though my tumor was small in comparison weighing in at six and a half pounds and ten and a half inches.

Sometimes you are just sick and you need to just rest or take better care of yourself. There have been times when I have felt sick and going to the doctor was the only way I could feel relieved. I can hear my mom saying just go to the doctor and put your mind at ease. I love that you can talk to a counselor from the comfort of your own home. Talking in an office can be intimidating, this way you can feel like you are more relaxed. You don’t have to worry about other patients waiting to be seen or feel like you are being put on the spot. Some people get really nervous in person, they might not speak up or feel like they can really open up. I really like Amwell as a more relaxed comfortable way to get care. It’s only $49 a visit, that is much cheaper than the $99 visit when you go to an urgent care. They can even prescribe you medicine to pick up at your local pharmacy.
