It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day! I am very Irish so, St.
Patrick’s Day has always been a fun holiday formy family. My dad was born in
Ireland and so was my grandpa. Growing up my sister and I used to hunt for
Leprechauns and look for their pot of gold. We used to plan what we would do if
we found the gold. St. Patrick’s Day is a great time to make memories with your
kids. You don’t have to go out and spend a lot of money. There really aren’t
presents for St. Patrick’s Day, which makes it less about gift giving than
other holidays.
Here is a list of 10 things to do for St. Patrick’s Day with
your children.
1.
Turn all your food green. Add food coloring to milk for a festive surprise. Add green food coloring to your child’s macaroni and cheese. Serve foods like grapes and celery or other foods that are naturally green. You can even find food coloring that is organic.

2.Go on a St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt. Hide
things like clover, plastic rainbows, and other green items. Be sure not to
forget the chocolate coins for the pot of gold at the end.
3.
Make rainbow cupcakes. Just make your favorite
white cake mix and divide it in to five bowls and color each bowl a different
color. Layer it in the cupcake pan and you will have a rainbow surprise when it
is done baking.
4. Paint rainbows and leprechauns on big sheets of
paper. Don’t forget the four leaf clovers for luck! You could even paint on the
windows with washable paint.
5. During naptime or before your children wake up,
decorate the house. Little leprechauns like to cause mischief and sometimes
forget to flush the toilet after they go to the restroom. Did you know
leprechauns make green urine? You can also write on mirrors with green dry
erase markers, use paint and make little leprechaun footprints too.
6. You can
easily make St. Patrick’s Day Rice Krispy Treats using food coloring before you
add the cereal. Just add it to the marshmallow mixture. You can even make them
clover shaped by hand or with a cookie cutter.
7.
Serve green pancakes for breakfast for an extra
fun and lucky breakfast! You can even put chocolate chips in them so it looks
like a leprechaun walked around in the green isles of Ireland.
8.
Build a Leprechaun trap out of a box decorated
like a rainbow so it tricks them to think the pot of gold is inside. Be quick
though Leprechauns are very crafty.
9. Make your own St. Patrick’s Day Dough. It’s
really easy. Just Mix 1 cup white flour, 1/4 cup of salt, and 2 tablespoons of
cream of tartar in a pot. Add 1 cup of
water, green food coloring and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Stir over medium heat for 3-5 minutes. When
the mixture forms a ball in the center of the pot take it out, add gold
glitter, and knead it on a floured surface until it is the consistency of
dough. Let it cool before use. When you are done put it in a plastic container
and store in the fridge.
10. Write and tell stories about Leprechauns. You
could even start telling a story and then take turns telling it. See how silly
you can make it. Write it down or record it to share with family and friends.
I hope gave you some exciting ideas for St.
Patrick’s Day. Remember to have fun and stay safe. Don’t forget to wear green
or you will be pinched. Have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day I hope you have lots
of GOOD LUCK!!
