It’s not always feasible to go somewhere far away on a
school vacation. It can be hard if you or your spouse work outside of the home.
It can be expensive even if you drive. There’s always staycations. A staycation
is where you don’t go away for a vacation. You don’t even have to stay at home
the whole time. If you spend a lot of
time at home, spending a long period of time can get boring. There are many
different things you can do to make it seem like a vacation without the cost
and time it takes to travel.
My family traveled a lot when I was growing up but we didn’t
always go somewhere every break. We wouldn’t go anywhere during Christmas break
or fall break. Instead we would go to my Grandma Rose’s house. I loved spending
time with her. I went there like once a month. It was always a vacation because
we would have so much fun. I was a tad bit spoiled being the baby. I would never travel again if I could have a
week with my Grandma Rose again.
Visiting family close by is a great staycation option especially if
other family is visiting from far away too. My aunt and uncle come to visit
once a year and we try and often do a family get together when they or other
family are visiting.
Stay in a local hotel. I know that sounds silly. Why stay in
a hotel when you have your own home with all your belongings. Who would pay
money for that? I used to have the same mentality until I realized that there
is something great about staying in a hotel, especially by yourself, when you
don’t have to worry about the long drive afterwards. You don’t have to clean,
you can go swimming or sink in to a hot tub. It’s a great way to break up the monotony
of being at your home the whole time. You can only go for a night, look for
good deals.
Go to a neighboring state. If you want to get away for a
couple days without the really long drive or extra cost of a week in a hotel. Look for fun
things to do, and probably a hotel for a night or two, depending on the
location. Just hop in your Jeep and go. Now with smartphones we can book a hotel in minutes from anywhere.
Look online for special things going on. Look for festivals,
fairs and shows. Noah really wants to go to a cat show.
You could even just go for drives in the car and see what
you can find. Learn the history of your area. Try new restaurants, go to new
places.
Look for an indoor water park or other fun things to do. Pick
up a bowling ball or a putter and have some fun playing games with your family.
Go for hikes, go to parks, and explore things about your
state. Go to museums, go to the movies. No matter what you decide to do for your
staycation enjoy it and make lots of fun memories.
