TV Today?

What on Earth is going on with TV these days? Why are there shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Jersey Shore on? I saw a commercial for a show called The Best Funeral Ever and it was like crazy. Why would people allow themselves to be filmed? Why would networks allow this stuff? How is it funny or cool? I just don't understand it. There is nothing amusing about a foul mouthed so called beauty queen. There is nothing interesting about drunk people acting crazy. This Best Funeral Ever show is almost a mockery of death. I understand the whole celebrating someone's life and all that but it's not really something to broadcast and market, in my opinion. I have never been to a funeral where there was a happy and fun tone. Funerals are supposed to be a time of mourning and not a chance to have a barbecue sauce fountain. It's as though the more outrageous and trashy you are the more you have a chance at your own show. I guess morals have gone out the window.

I know that in the 70's and 80's and the 90's there were questionable shows for the time. I know I wasn't allowed to watch The Golden Girls and I wasn't sure why, until I got older and understood the jokes. I wasn't allowed to watch MTV when it was still music videos. I have watched shows like Three's Company, The Golden Girls and All in the Family and I am thinking wow some of the jokes and references are pretty risqué. I also understood it better.  Shows today make Archie Bunker look like Pa Wilder from Little House on the Prairie.  I am kind of worried about what kinds of shows will be on when Noah's a teenager.  Will there be any censorship left? There isn't a lot left to begin with these days but it makes me wonder.

Remember Tia and Tamera?

Do you remember the show Sister, Sister? It is the one about the twins Tia and Tamera that find out that they are twins at a shopping mall. They were both adopted by another family.  After they find each other they move in together along with their very unique parents.  I really loved that show growing up.  Heck I still love it. I watched it yesterday.  It is a good show, with good moral values.  Sure the twins got in trouble but it was always a wholesome show where you felt good after watching it. I remember when I was on vacation when I was younger I saw Tia and Tamera at the grocery store. I don’t think I said anything as I was more than likely star struck as a huge fan of the show.  They are around my age so I grew up watching them grow up.

Tia and Tamera have a new show now on The Style Network. I have always loved them so I decided to watch it one day and I fell in love with the show. I feel that it is a great show because they just have this dynamic about them.  It might be because I grew up watching them on Sister, Sister but honestly I would watch it either way. There isn’t really any drama on the show and I like that. I watch it and I feel like I learn so much about being a person and a mom. I have learned different techniques that they use in their relationship with each other to better myself and my relationship with my sister.  It is a show that I look forward to watching each week.  I love to see that Tia and Tamera have become successful, beautiful and inspirational women.  They didn’t fall down the typical child star well of drugs and craziness.  They aren’t in the tabloids for doing crazy things or really anything bad. I am sure that is because of the values they learned growing up.  Both Tia and Tamera are married. Tia is married to Adam Housley who she calls Housley which is so cute. He is a reporter for Fox News. I actually saw him report one morning on TV and I went in a tangent about how much I love the show to my mom.  Tamera is also married to a guy named Cory Hardrict.  They have an adorable little boy named Cree. I just want to pinch his little cheeks.

Tamera and Tia, I am letting Tamera go first this time, do all kinds of work with children to inspire them to be whoever they want to be. I think that is wonderful.  They are the best role models for aspiring children actors and young women because they honestly worked hard for what they have.

You can see Tia and Tamera on The Style Network on Mondays at 8 pm ET and 11 pm ET
Have you watched the show? Let me know what you think.

My Thoughts on Eden's World

Have you seen the show Eden’s World? It is about 6 year old Eden Wood who used to be a beauty pageant superstar. It is on Logo and I started watching it On Demand. Let me tell you that it is a horrible train wreck. All of the pageant shows are train wrecks and I don’t think that dressing your child up to look like a grown up and skimpy outfits is an ok thing to do. It is totally wrong in my opinion and it makes little girls focus on outer fake beauty. All of the pageant pictures look like the little girls aren’t even real, like someone made them in to a plastic fake doll. I know that a lot of parents live through their child for the adults dreams of wishing they were beauty queens.

Eden’s World is a horrible show. Sure I think she is cute but overly too cute. She seems that she is overacting and over the top.  I don’t want to sound like I am bad mouthing a six year old. My problem with the show has nothing to do with Eden herself.  I am glad that she is so confident, even though it might be a little too confident. Things I saw in the episodes of Eden’s World were not appropriate.  I know that it is not a kid’s show but there are kids present when a lot of the drama happens.  I think the stylist Fran is an evil and rude woman, she yells at people, gets in confrontations with other adults in front of young children, and her language is horrible. I would be so upset if my child heard the things she was saying as a parent.  Her Manager is the same way, she also is very short tempered, rude, angry and also uses foul language in the presence of Eden and other children. I also noticed that her manager is not being professional.

My question is Mickie why subject your child to that? Why would you do a show like this? Why would you want your adorable 6 year olds name and brand attached to rude and nasty tempered people? I understand Eden really wants to become a star, but the E Team’s behavior is going to harm her more than it helps her.  People will quickly learn about the E Team’s temper and why would someone want to do business with Eden if her team treats others like dirt? I think that you should have probably passed on the show because her talent is what should get her out there, not some ridiculous show that makes you, your daughter and her dreams look like some big joke.

Actors in Different Roles on the Same Show

I love watching TV. It is no big secret as I have talked about TV quite a bit on my blog. I sometimes notice when I am watching I get to see actors that I know from shows now, which is really cool. I have noticed some of the guest stars who are now well known actors have played different roles on the same show. I find it funny because you would think they would notice. I know it is just TV and not real but if someone who looked like my mom and was my mom showed up at the grocery store saying Winner Winner Chicken Dinner to a stranger I would notice. OK so my mom really did that.  In her defense she thought I was behind her but had wandered off somewhere else.  I would definitely notice if someone was trying to claim to be someone else, so why don’t the TV characters?

Dann Florek most known as Capitan Craggen from Law and Order guest stared on Roseanne as a couple different characters.  First he was the principal at one of the kids schools and then he was Darlene’s Doctor when she was pregnant and went in to labor.

Speaking of Law and Order SVU Diane Neal who is best known for playing ADA Casey Novak was also a guest star as a stripper that was accused of raping a man.

Jeffery Tambor has had like ten different roles on Three’s Company. No one has ever noticed that he has been two different doctors, and a stuck up real estate agent, to name a few. IMDB doesn’t have all the roles he played on Three’s Company listed.

Then you have the actors that replace another actor’s characters, like Dick Sargent replaced Dick York as Darren on Bewitched.  It also happened on Roseanne twice.  Lecy Gorgson was the original Becky, then Sarah Chalke took over her role. Later Lecy came back as Becky and the show ended as Sarah Chalke as Becky. Of course they made fun of it on the show, by asking the original Becky where she has been, and spoofing The Patty Duke Show in the end credits. This would happen all the time on soaps. You miss a couple weeks of a soap and you have no idea who the new person is supposed to be. I remember on Passions sometimes they would say the character would be played by someone else. Why can’t they just send them out if they are on maternity leave or kill off the character when they leave the show?  The weirdest thing was when I watched Passions there was a character named Timmy and he gave his heart for Charity and died on the show, the day the show aired the actor died. It was very sad.

What are some actors that play different roles in a show or an instance where they replace a character with another actor?

Les Gold Stars in Hardcore Pawn

Image from Wikipedia
In April or May I was introduced to a show called Hardcore Pawn by a friend of mine. It’s about Les Gold and his family who own a pawn shop in Detroit.  The first time I watched it, I was hooked.  I know there are shows like Pawn Stars but I like Hardcore Pawn because they focus on the family dynamics versus what is actually being pawned and what it is worth. Of course people go and pawn things and they show that, but most of the show is about Seth and Ashley who are Les Gold’s children and how they are kind of in a turf war over American Jewelry and Loan. They also show a lot of the people that come in to pawn stuff, most of them are eccentric and outrageous. I sometimes wonder if they are for real. I have never been to Detroit, I have heard some scary stuff about it, but I am convinced that not everyone from there is crazy.  With all shows they always show the craziest stuff because it is good for ratings, and frankly it would be boring. It wouldn’t be Hardcore Pawn, it would be BORING.  There is also this really hot guy named Bobby J and I could just stare at him for hours. They just finished up the third season, and I hope there is a season 4.  There was only a month break between season 2 and 3, hopefully they won’t make me wait too long.  You can see it on TruTv at 9pm, you can see older episodes before and after.
Do you watch Hardcore Pawn? What do you think of it?

Tune in 11/11/11 for a Special Extreme Home Maker Over for Veterans Day

Veteran’s Day is very important to not only our country, but to me personally. One of my friends was killed in action in Iraq in March 2004. It is very important to remember and thank our Veterans, every day for the sacrifices they make and their families make, everyday.  I wanted to share something that is really cool with you.

ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is teaming up with the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) to present a one-hour special: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition “Rise and Honor” A Veterans Day Special.  Airing on Veterans Day (11/11/11), host Ty Pennington will take us back to some of the most heartwarming military stories featured over the years. The Veterans’ Day program will include appearances by Whoopi Goldberg, Jewel, George Lopez, J.R. Martinez, Rachael Ray, Sherri Shepherd, Robin Williams as well as Major League Baseball (MLB) players Daniel Murphy of the Mets, Shane Victorino of the Phillies and Clay Buchholz of the Red Sox – all encouraging the public to donate via phone and web at www.riseandhonor.org

The funds raised during #RiseandHonor will benefit the following veteran-serving organizations:

 ·        Fisher House Foundation
·         Hire Heroes USA
·         Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund
·         USO (United Service Organizations)
·         Volunteers of America
·         and Welcome Back Veterans.

These organizations provide vital services and support to our nations veterans and their families including housing, job placement, career readiness, health care, rehabilitation and mental health treatment.

I will be tuning in and I hope you all will too. It is really important to celebrate and remember our Veterans.  There are so many Veterans that end up with nothing, and on the streets. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be in a war. We should give back, what they gave for us. I am sure I will end up crying my eyes out, because stories about the Military always make me cry. They make me think about Chris and how he and so many others gave all for the land of the free.

Sheilacakes Confession: My TV is on My Dresser

I have thought about getting a new TV for my room. I would like to get a flat screen one that would hang on my wall because I don’t have any TV furniture. My TV in my room sits on my dresser.  I am not really sure if I would have a place to hang it on the wall though that wouldn’t require a complete makeover of my room. I have a pretty big dresser in my room and I also have two bookcases and Noah’s chest of drawers. I wouldn’t really know how to move all my furniture so it would still look good.  It really doesn’t bother me that it is on my dresser; it has been on there for years. I am just not sure what to do if this TV decides to not work anymore. It is pretty old, since it used to be my sisters.

My TV downstairs is a good sized TV and it is in a really nice entertainment center. I remember the day it was delivered. I don’t really care for moving people, delivery people etc.  I also was planning on taking Noah with me to go hang out with my friend and her daughter that is the same age as Noah. We were going to observe her son at preschool.  I really like my entertainment center. It is beautiful, the only problems with it are the bottom shelves didn’t stay well and they kept falling down and that they delivered the wrong tower so the door opens the wrong way.  It’s nothing noticeable unless you study it, but it is still a great piece either way.

When I think about  a TV stand I think about being at my Grandparent’s house. They had a big one that sat in the little hallway between the family room and kitchen. You could turn the TV to face in the kitchen or the family room depending on where you wanted to sit. One of my favorite spots was sitting in the little hallway. My Grandparents had a little penguin candle with its own little igloo. I loved it. I still have it somewhere.  I would constantly play with it when I was at my grandparents. I am sure my sister and I used to fight over it. One of us, I can’t remember who now, was turning the TV and the TV stand fell over. No one was hurt but it poked a hole in the wall and I think we got in trouble for it.  I felt horrible and the penguin candle was lost for months.  I am not sure what happened to it, but I was so excited to be reunited with it.  I didn’t touch the TV stand for a long time after that.

What are your TV's on? Do you have something fancy or something simple like I do for my bedroom TV?

Why WE TV Why?

Why oh why We TV, why did you take The Cupcake Girls off the air? It makes me so sad, after I wrote a post about the show. I think I should stop talking about tv on my blog because it disappears shortly after. WE please bring back the show. It was my favorite part of Saturday night. Now I am very upset because it is gone. Your replacement, the Golden Girls, really, do you really need to put that show on at more time slots. I swear The Golden Girls are on so many networks, so many times a day. It’s a good show but not as good as The Cupcake Girls. Cupcakes are better than four old ladies from the 80’s. Betty White is probably bathing in money as often as the show is shown.

Seriously WE I am really upset, The Cupcake Girls is actually a great reality show, it’s not full of trash like all the other ones are. It is the best cake or cupcake show because it is real. It’s not competition; it brings joy to this cupcake lover. Please I am asking you to bring it back. I will make you cupcakes myself if you bring it back. It is so much better than those wedding shows that no one but a bride watches. OK they get married and stop watching. I can’t believe you took a great show and totally stopped showing it. It is the best show on WE TV and it makes me so upset I could spit, and possibly enough to stop watching WE all together.

I thought I would share with my many readers about how great the show is and how much I love it. It is also very unique and not like the same CRAP redone that is on every other stinkin’ channel, like the cake shows, cupcake shows, competitions, and wedding shows. It was different, and unique and genuine. I felt like I was catching up with my old friends Lori and Heather when I watched The Cupcake Girls. I cried when they cried. I bawled when Lori found out she was pregnant and during her ultrasound and now I am left without The Cupcake Girls.

I probably won’t be watching WE anymore because this is not right. It’s not like the season ended. Sure I would get that but they stopped showing it before the season ended. WE isn’t producing the show so what the heck is the problem? I am not a happy mama or a happy blogger.

Pippi Longstocking Day

In a post I wrote about my friend Adrianna, I said that I would write a post about Pippi Longstocking Day. We were hanging out at her house. We had a picnic of Papa John’s Pizza and decided to eat it in the woods behind her house. Well we got lost in the woods and thought we would have to live in the woods because we didn’t think we would ever get out. Of course the wood was not that big and we managed to get out of the woods.

Later we decided to clean up the house because it was a mess. Well we decided to run the dishwasher at least. We loaded it up and put in the soap and thought we would go play basketball in her driveway. We shot hoops for a while and came back inside. We noticed that the floor was all wet and very soapy. It looked like something straight out of a sitcom. We figured out that you can’t put Dawn in the dishwasher. It said so on the label but who really reads the label? Not us apparently. Her parents were gone and we didn’t want to get in trouble. See, Adrianna’s parents are very nice but they are also very strict sometimes.

I decided to call the 1800 number and hope and pray for the best. Somehow we managed to get all the soap out of the dishwasher and then we were just left with the mess. The expensive dishwasher was fine. So, being the brilliant young women we are decided to steal a page out of Pippi Longstocking’s playbook and use sponges on our feet and “mop” up the mess. We also used many towels and it was quite comical and scary at the same time. The floor was very slippery and time was ticking away fast. We were also soaked. We were worried that they would come home and find out what happened. We were really worried that we wouldn’t be able to be friends anymore and that we would get in so much trouble. It took what seemed forever to get it all cleaned up. We changed our clothes, so there wasn’t any evidence. We didn’t speak a word of Pippi Longstocking Day to anyone.

I spent the night at Adrianna’s that night. It was a very stormy night, so we decided to sleep in the basement. We were watching TV and playing really late. Her house had a really sensitive security system and they of course had it on, so we had to make sure we didn’t slam doors, or make too much noise. That was nothing new though. As we were lying in bed watching TV at midnight, the doorbell rang. It scared us. Who shows up at someone’s house at midnight? Adrianna’s parents are very respectable and responsible adults so no one would just show up without calling. Someone checked but there was no one out there. That really freaked us out. We managed to be able to fall asleep after such a long and crazy day.

The next morning we woke up to sirens and flashing lights. We found out that a house couple doors down had been struck by lightning. The family had kids that Adrianna was friends with, so we played with them sometimes. It was really scary but thankfully no one was hurt. We found out that when the lightning struck the neighbors house the doorbell rang at Adrianna’s house and wait for it………

BROKE AND FRIED ADRIANNA’S FAMILY’S DISHWASHER.

The dishwasher we were so concerned about not breaking less than 24 hours before.

Kid's TV Shows Questions

I am a mom of a 4 year old. We watch a lot of kid’s shows. There are many questions I have about the shows. Yes, I think about things like this. I am wondering why certain shows are the way they are. I know that one of the biggest questions parents have is where are Max and Ruby’s parents? I actually looked it up and the author and creator of Max and Ruby wanted kids to learn how to solve problems on their own. Max and Ruby are not orphans that live alone, so no need to call CPS on Max and Ruby’s parents. They are there somewhere. Perhaps locked in a closet or the attic somewhere, I wonder why they have grandma though. I love how they make it seem like grandma lives far away when in reality she lives next door. I really don’t care for the fact that Max is allowed to go to the store by himself when he is probably no more than 4. I know it is a cartoon but not all kids grasp the fact that it is make believe.

Noah likes to watch Franklin. I was thinking about it and started wondering why all of Franklin’s friends are named what kind of animal they are. Bear, Otter, Beaver, and Porcupine for example. Why does Franklin have a real name and why isn’t he called turtle. Maybe it is to distinguish him from everyone else or maybe Franklin’s parents are just more creative. What if another beaver or bear move in the woods then what would they be named? Bear 2 and Beaver 2? Do they have last names? Maybe they really have first names and they go by their last names, but why not Franklin?

I know that is a common occurrence in children’s shows. Now I am thinking about The Berenstain Bears. Why Brother and Sister are called Brother and Sister. I know they are brother and sister but everyone else calls them brother and sister too. What about Mama and Papa Bear. Everyone including other adults call them Mama and Papa. What were their names when they were little? What are the odds that if their parents really named them Mama and Papa they would fall in love and get married? Unless it was an arranged marriage, I don’t see it being possible. I know all of Brother and Sister’s friends have first and last names. Sister’s friend Lizzie Bruin’s parents are called Mr. and Mrs. Bruin. I have no idea.

I am sure I am way overanalyzing these shows but, it ,makes you think about things. I remember the time I looked up why Caillou is bald. I wonder about things like that. I am a dork and I am the first to admit so. In case you are wondering, Caillou is bald because the creator of Caillou wanted to make it so all children can relate with Caillou equally by giving him no hair.

What are some of your kid show questions? I hope this helped clear up some of your questions you have been losing sleep over.

The Cupcake Girls

I am not huge on watching what I call fad cooking shows. You know what I am talking about cake shows except for Food Network Challenge. I noticed a while back the trend is now cupcake shows. One network started doing one and then every channel that has cake shows now has a cupcake show. I understand that cupcakes are huge right now. I decided not to watch any of the cupcake shows because seriously….how many different ways can you decorate and make cupcakes? Competition shows also get on my nerves. It is never anything different. Same show, different network. I would like to see some originality in the programming on TV. It seems like the same concept is used over and over again. That is a whole other blog post though.

One Saturday night recently I was watching TV. I decided to start watching a show on WE called The Cupcake Girls. There was nothing else on and the description on my cable box sounded appealing. So I checked it out. I fell in love with the show. It is not a show about cupcakes, how to make them or someone who is judging others making them. It is a show about two best friends in Canada that happen to own a cupcake business. I really enjoy watching Lori and Heather’s adventures. I love the dynamics of the show. It is so interesting because they don’t know how to bake, they are best friends and they don’t just talk about cupcakes. I love cupcakes more than probably anyone in the world, but like I said just watching people make cupcakes, decorate cupcakes to me is boring and makes me really hungry.

The really cool thing about the show is also that they show you how hard it really is to run a business. It seems like every show they have some kind of obstacle to overcome in their business. They are able to go through all these challenges and are able to be best friends at the end of the day. I love all of the Cupcakes staff too. They all seem like they are really nice people. It makes me want to go to Vancouver and go to Cupcakes and buy some delicious treats. I am really hoping that they achieve their dream of having their cupcake bakeries in every neighborhood in North America. I would gladly open a Cupcakes bakery if I had the revenue. Baking cupcakes for a living would be a great job. I would have to be rolled home in a wheel barrow every day because I would eat cupcakes all day. They also came up with a cupcake mix that you can take home and make it with your kids. I bet it is delicious. I would love to sample some of their cupcakes someday.

I have to share with you guys about Cadence. She is one of the girls that work the counter at Cupcakes. She is so funny and sees like she could make anyone smile. I hadn’t seen her on a couple of the episodes and I was very worried that Cadence wasn’t working there anymore. Thankfully I saw her, because that would have made me sad because she is a great support person on the show. Cadence definitely has her moments. She has had to scrub the toilets with a toothbrush and clean the bathrooms on the show a few times I suspect because she is too nice to say anything to the customer. I really think that Cadence has a great heart.

Another thing I really like about The Cupcake Girls is how it's like Lori and Heather are your friends and you share in their heartbreaks and victories. I know when Lori found out she was pregnant I started crying. I cried when they showed her ultrasound on the show because she had been trying for so long. I found on their Facebook page that Lori had a boy. I am so happy for her. I really love The Cupcake Girls. Do you watch the show? What do you think?

It is on WE on Saturday Nights. The new episodes are at 9:00 pm and 9:30 pm ET. It is also on at other times too. Check your local listings. It is definitely worth watching.

Sadly, I did not receive any cupcakes for this post, but Lori and Heather if you want to send me some, please don’t hesitate to do so.

Is It Just an Urban Legend?

I love learning about Urban Legends. I am not exactly sure when I learned about them. I remember I would spend hours reading about them online. I think they are so interesting. It becomes like a giant game of telephone. I am sure you remember playing telephone where you tell someone something and by the time it gets passed down it has changed. They also play in to our worst fears that these things can happen. They have been around for a coon’s age. They are recycled throughout the ages and also updated to fit the times. Maybe it has to do with the first time I saw Adventures in Babysitting with the man with the hook, which is a very famous urban legend.

Some of them are really scary, I remember there would be times when I just had to shut the web page because I was scared. I know that people have written ghost stories about them as a basis. It always ends up being kind of ironic, escaping death only to die a more gruesome death a few moments later. They are things that could possibly happen but no one actually knows for sure. It’s always a friend of a friend that it happened to. I believe they are also a good scare tactic of the unknown.

I remember when I saw the movie Urban Legends, I was dating a guy named Steve, and we went out to eat and then to the movie and drank hot chocolate. I don’t do well with scary things. So, I was freaked out a little. Thankfully Steve was a nice guy that didn’t try and scare me. So, Steve where ever you are Thanks! I am a big baby though and get scared really easily. I didn’t really like the movie too terribly much because it scared me. It was making them real and they were no longer urban legends. I am not sure if I have seen the second one and I am not sure I want to . I haven’t watched the movie pretty much after it came out. No thanks. Nothing scary for me, I get nightmares and I can’t sleep for days. I avoid scary movies at all costs. I am sure you are thinking that movie wasn’t scary but like I said I am a baby.

I do however love to watch the tv show Urban Legends on the Biography Channel. It is on Saturdays at noon and there are 4 episodes that play. I like it because they tell you three stories and you have to decide which is fact and which is just an Urban Legend. I like that they tell some things that really happen. I think that is why I like Snopes because they tell you if it is true, false or unknown. When I watch Urban Legends I find myself thinking, I really hope that is an urban legend, because that is nasty or scary etc. Usually it is but there is always one that is real and really happened. They even go as far as occasionally having the people that it happened to on the show saying my name is such and such and this is true. If it is not true they sometimes explain why it can’t be true.

Do you like urban legends? What are some of your favorites? Do you watch the show on Biography?

Judge Noah?

It all started when I was pregnant with Noah, I would watch Judge shows all the time. I even watched them when I was on bed rest in the hospital. The nurses kept asking me if Noah was going to be a lawyer, which I didn’t find amusing extremely pregnant, on bed rest in the hospital for TWO weeks. Half the time I had to call a nurse to go to the bathroom so, those couple weeks was not the most pleasant thing to experience. Now I have been watching judge shows for years, I really enjoy watching them because they are interesting. Somewhere may it be, genetics or while in my womb or shortly after Noah was born, Noah developed my love for judge shows. When he was a teeny tiny baby he loved to watch Cops I think it was the lights and the music. He no longer watches it though.

His favorite is Judge Judy. Judge Judy is awesome. We watch it every day it is on. He asks to watch Judge Judy on weekends or before or after it is on. He will say “Wanna watch Judge Judy?” It is really cute. I will tell him to put on his listening ears and he will do the Judge Judy listening ears hand movements. I like Judge Judy for her brassy attitude. I am sure she is probably a total sweetheart when she is off the bench as long as you don’t lie to her. He also likes to watch Judge Pirro. He knows all the judges by name.

He even knows who the judge on Street Court is. He says look it’s judge Mazz. I never watch Street Court it just doesn’t interest me. We both love People’s Court too. Noah really enjoys watching it too. I love how compassionate Judge Milian is. I love her no nonsense approach to ruling. I have said before that if I went on a court show it would be The People’s Court. I love the sayings she says. She seems like such a genuine person. When I went to Dolphin Mall in Miami, you can bet I was looking at every person’s face I saw. I would have been floored if I saw her but I regret to say I did not. I am such a huge fan of hers.

Something I have noticed is in watching massive amounts of court shows. They start out meaning well, then they seem to turn more to the trashy side of TV, I am sure it is for ratings or just the cases they get offered but it does make me somewhat sad. I am not saying they aren’t amazing people I just wish they tried cases that weren’t about sex or nudity or just trashy period. I wish all TV was like that though. I might be crazy for watching court shows with my son but we both enjoy it a lot. Noah doesn’t normally stay glued to the TV no matter what is on. He is busy playing and running around. I would just like them to be somewhat appropriate or family orientated. Usually Judge Judy and People’s Court are pretty good at being family friendly and even then they have their moments.

What court shows do you like to watch?

Mine are:

I Wish These Shows and Movies Were on DVD

There are quite a few great things that should be on DVD but aren’t. Most of them are from my childhood that I want my son to be able to watch and now that I don’t have a VCR after my DVR-VHS combo broke I am constantly looking for these shows and movies on DVD. Here is my list. Let me know if there is something you would like to see on DVD. Maybe someone will see my list and do something. A girl can dream can’t she? The list is no particular order.

1. Merry Mirthworm’s Christmas

2. The Torkelsons

3. Lamb chop’s Play Along

4. Zoobilee Zoo

5. Salute Your Shorts

6. Hey Dude

7. The Jetsons meet The Flintstones

8. Daffy Duck Fantastic Island

9. Hey Vern It’s Ernest

10. Today’s Special

11. Cold Case

12. Pinwheel

13. Seasons of Judge Judy

14. The Frog Prince – The Muppets version

15. As Told By Ginger

16. The Adventures of The Little Koala

17. You Can't Do That on Television

18. Ghostwriter (tv series)

19. Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

Please put all of these on DVD. I want to be able to share some of these with my son. Some of them are things I loved growing up and love today.

Strangers with Candy

Photobucket
One of my favorite shows is Strangers With Candy. It used to be on Comedy Central in 1999 to 2002. I would stay up late just to watch it. It was hilarious. I have all three seasons on DVD and I have the movie too. I still enjoy watching it. I had bought the movie without watching it and I didn’t really like it for a number of reasons.

Strangers with Candy is about a woman named Jerri Blank who was a 46 year old high school freshman. She was a boozer, a loser and a user. She even stole the TV. She decided to go back to school and although the faces have changed the hassles are just the same. It is a ridiculous show that I think is so funny. It’s supposed to be parodies of those “After school Specials”. They can get pretty raunchy but I love it.

Some of the running gags are Jerri’s dad is never seen moving, when you see him he is in a weird frozen pose. The art teacher and the history teacher are secretly in love. There are always funny things on the marquee sign in front of Flat Point High. Everything is about things that teenagers go through.

My favorite episodes are the two part episodes where Jerri joins a cult. She goes to the mall with her friend Orlando and she meets this girl named Rebecca who is selling flowers. Since Jerri is a social outcast she gets talked in to going to Safe Trap House and joins the cult. At first it is really hard to break Jerri to where she accepts being in the cult but ultimately she falls under Father's spell and her friends have to go rescue her.

The idea of Strangers with Candy is based on a woman named Florrie Fisher. She looks almost identical to Amy Sedaris’ character of Jerri Blank. Florrie Fisher used to go on tours and talk to high school students in the 70’s about the dangers of drugs, and prostitution. The resemblance is pretty scary. I watched one of her speeches called The Trip Back on YouTube. Florrie Fisher ended up disappearing and never being found as did Jerri Blank.

So, if you want something hilarious to watch that really doesn’t have much of a point. You should check out Strangers With Candy. It stars Amy Sedaris, Stephen Colbert, and Gregory Holliman. You will be entertained. I thought I was the only person in the world that loves Strangers with Candy but I found out my friend Victoria loves it too.

Just the facts Ma'am

Recently, I ordered The first season of Dragnet from Amazon. I had wanted to watch Dragnet and since it is not on TV anymore I figured I would check out the prices at Amazon. I found the first season new for really cheap. It arrived a few days ago. I was thinking about how I used to watch Dragnet on Nick at Nite, and then I thought about all of those old shows I loved to watch. Many of those shows are not on anymore. I am disappointed about that. Nick at Nite went from shows like Dragnet, I Love Lucy, Bewitched, I dream of Jeanie and Mary Tyler Moore to shows like Roseanne, Fresh Prince of Bel-air, and George Lopez which they show over and over again on many other channels. I can't believe that they would do that to quality television. It really makes me sad. It was fun to watch those old shows. I remember watching them with my Grandma Rose. I wish Nick at Nite would bring back the CLASSICS!

When they decided to make the change at Nick at Nite they started a channel called TV Land. They had only the old shows on there. Now they have some of the old shows like Bonanza which I only like to hum the tune and some others like All in the Family and Sanford and Son and Roseanne is on like 10 times a night. They recently added Home Improvement that was on Nick at Nite but it is like they take it off one channel and throw it on the other. I also miss watching Patty Duke, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and all of those other little gems. No one wants to watch 10 episodes of Roseanne a day, every day. So, Hello out there in TV Land and Nick at Nite. Turn off the junk and bring back the oldie but goodies.
