In a relationship, everything
can seem so magical and wonderful during the honeymoon phase. I remember
someone telling me to go on a road trip with a guy after you've been dating for
a while. It's a great way to see if you are both into each other. Most of the
time when you date, you want it to last a lifetime. What better way that be
locked in the car with the person of your affections. It will give you a
glimpse in to your future and possibly see how they handle stress. Unfortunately,
sometimes you realize it's not right for you. I learned the hard way when I was
stranded in Louisville in the middle of the night. It's a long story.
On the other hand, you can
use a road trip to get closer to your significant other. When you have this
devoted time together without your kids and no screens, you spend a lot of time
talking. You can talk about all kinds of things. You can have those not kid
friendly conversations.
You can also talk about
what you are feeling about certain topics. It's nice to take time away from
your busy lives and reconnect.
You can play games like
would you rather where you think of terrible things and ask them which one they
prefer and no is not an option. You can even ask them why.
You can just talk about
movies or music or hobbies. There's not really any rules. You can use it to
bring up issues you are having and have a civil discussion about things.
Road trips are special
because when you fly, it's just usually silence or spending your time on a
device or watching a movie. Most people rarely talk on a flight. Going on a
road trip gives you uninterrupted time without having to answer are we there
yet?
You can also take your
time and visit places you might not take your kids. You can go to antique shops
and not worry about your kids breaking things. You don't have to watch that
they don't touch everything
You can also enjoy meals
of your choice and not worry about the kid’s menu. This is a big thing for me.
I have to look at a menu before we go out to eat to make sure Noah has
something to eat.
You will be able to talk
about old times before you were parents and fall in love all over again.
